DRIFT SCHOOL: Any interest?

I am testing waters for potential i-Club Drift School.

I have an opportunity to invite Ueo Katsuhiro to be an instructor for all you dorifto fans.

For those of you that do not know, Ueo is the driver of the ballsy AE86 Corolla that won US D1 Grand Prix. Ueo is also the 2002 D1 Champion and will most likely be the 2003 D1 champ as well.

Basically it will be a 1/2 day event with very limited # of students that will get 1-on-1 time with Ueo. He will teach you how to drift your car, what to do, what not to do, etc etc etc.

The idea is to have ~4 annual Drift School events. That way a complete drift noob can go from knowing nothing about drift techniques to more experienced and advanced. That way a person can start on 1st event, get instructed by Ueo, then practice until the next event and learn new tricks during the second one. Then 3rd and 4th.

The number of event participants will be probably between 10-20 per event. That will be decided later on if I decide to go ahead with that event. Noone will get ignored and will have an opportunity to learn the tricks of drifting from the real pro drift champion.

Pricing is still in the air, but I am estimating it to be ~ $500. If you decide to take up on level 2 and take part in the 2nd event, your cost will be discounted.

This is still very much up in the air, but I want to hear what you guys have to say.

Please give me feedback.

I am a total newb and if this is cool I would be interested. But like i vited $500 may be out of my budget.

If its after the new year I could most likely spring $300 or so....

how about you have some "secondary instructors" that are just volunteers from I-club willing to teach the basics to a more n00bish audience?

You could get a lot more people paying 1-200 dollars for that kind of instruction. I dunno, just IMO

$500 for a half day is really expensive, no matter the quality of the instruction. even most of the established professional driving schools don't cost that much if you're driving your own car. Russell driving schools will put you in one of their formula cars for 4 hours for $525. in short, it's a really cool idea, but too much $$$ for too little track and instruction time.

get some instructors to give us some quality one on one training for track driving that will make us faster on the street and track (not to mention safer).

I'm not real interested in sliding my car all over the place, just hauling ***.

I assure you the instructor of this course can haul ***

But hey almighty imprezzer, it would be a really good idea for an ALL-suby track day where we all learn how to HAUL ***!!!

Like I said, the pricing is just my guestimate.

When coming up with the price, here is what needs to be taken into consideration.

1. The # of students must be limited.
2. The # of students needs to be small enough to ensure that everyone gets enough time with instructor. 1-on-1 teaching is the key.
3. Track fees need to be covered.
4. Instructor needs to be paid.

So "cost" of running like this will be more than your regular track day, but you will have less people attending it, due to #2. Hense higher than normal track day fees.

I know that for $200, that will not happen no matter what.

Also, drifting lessons do not need to be taking place at a racetrack. So, the cost of "location" rental can be a lot lower IF there are other options (parking lots, private lots, etc etc etc). So, there are ways of lowering costs, so I just threw $500 out there as a potential price.

---

sonicsuby: It will not be your normal track day. It will be Drift school. The purpose of which is to teach you how to drift and not how to be safe on track and street. You will be tought how to be safe DRIFTING, thats is for sure.

Dropkick: It will be a full day event. Maybe even a weekend long event.

verc: There is a possibility that more than 1 pro D1 drivers can attend that.

-----

I just changed the poll. Lets disregard the price for now. I just want to know if I should proceed with something like this. Of course, this is just "testing waters" so all I need to know is if there is interest or not. All other things aside.

Since I edited the poll, those of you who already did vote, please post here what NEW option you want to choose since you cannot re-vote.

Seeing as how this is a beginners event one would hope that there is no chance it will take place on a track. Hopefully that would lower the price significantly. It will be interesting to see if anyone is going to pay $500 to learn something they could do for free in the middle of the night somewhere or for $100 at a driftday event. Just my 0.01 BUT it is very nice to see someone with some power in the scene take real initiative to set something like this up. We need more well-organized grassroots events. Good luck, hopefully its a great success!

I say a few of you rich guys go to this and learn how to drift.

Then we rent out an airfield and go buck wild.
