Drag Racing, I suck (emo thread)

I have a lightly modded '05 STi.

Power

Turboback (Helix catted dp-5Zigen)
AVC-R Boost Controller
Lightweight crank pulley
Walboro 255lph Fuel pump
ECUTek w/protune 249/273
GP Moto Elbow delete and K&N drop in filter

Weight Control

13.5lb bat
WRX wing
Lighter struts
No spare or jack

Added weigth

12" sub and box 2 amps and a 280lb driver.

This was the best I could do for the first drag of the year.

Iced my TMIC in staging. Dropped icecubes in the IC water tank. DCCD all the way back. Reving from 4-6k on launch to keep boost (no bog). 60 foot is decent I just have ABSOLUTELY NO FAWKING TOP END. I shift very quickly, bang gears to be percise. I shift @ 6500rpms. I press the IC squirter in ever gear except the 1-2nd shift (too fast). This is a new track and is not up hill anymore. I used 3 gallons of 91 and 3 gallons of 104 unleaded. I was running 20-21lbs of boost. it was 57 dgrees out.

All that and I get a stock time for a STi. I thought AT least I could do a 13.0 flat and prayed to the baby jesus for a 12.9.

FAWK MY CAR.

get rid of the AVC-R and get a retune with an AP, guranteed to make 20 more whp, and you'll pickup probably 3-4 mph which'll bring you to around 13.1, trapping 101 means you let off the gas too early or you have **** for top end...

also, don't worry about the IC sprayer once you're going, using it to continue cooling down while staging...Also leave DCCD to auto, the system is pretty smart and knows what it's doing (=

*EDIT* just read that you have a catted downpipe...that's your problem.

I have shiot for top end. I have tried DCCD auto and the best it ever got was 1.9. Best I got with DCCD all the way open was a 1.6.

What's the diff between an AP and a ECutek? beside ECUtek does a single map and AP does multi maps. Do you know that both have boost control? But both use the lame stock solenoid. Where the AVC-R helps is it adds more boost (gear specific) and the way boost comes on with the stock Denso solenoid vs the Apexi solenoid is night and day.

Ask any tunner. AVCR is WAY better than EM w the stock boost solenoid.

Thanks for the reply and advice.

I need to find a 120lb jockey to just drive my car for me.

I feel you on that, but have you data logged at all? Is the AVC-R is mainting the boost long enough, etc. I've got turboback (helix dp, HKS exhaust), K&N typhoon, and ECUTek on 18lbs and did a 13.0 at 105 with 1.760ft on auto DCCD, 05 STi tuned by Mike. I weigh about 240, so I know it's in the car to do it, sounds like something is causing power loss top end, possible cracked turbo?

I'd data log and check your max boost in each gear...

AVC-R is still a solenoid based controller. Get an MBC for consistent boost, and get rid of any pill in the lines.

Is it also possible you just need more practice? Not trying to be a dick, launching an AWD car right is not easy to do.

judging by the 60ft, it seems he's aight with the launch, it could be shifting, but he says he's shifting hard, I be interested to see some data logs, or a dyno sheet of the 249 run to see where the hp drops off...

Both tuners I know and trust told me the AVCR was better than a MBC. With AVCR you can decide what amount of boost you want in each gear. My boost hits 1.5 bar and sticks! Also I have no pill in my lines.

Practice is a must and I am rusty since last year. This was a decent lauch (see 60ft) and a solid run. I had no miss shifts, no tach fuel cuts and was very quick in shifiting. This should have made for a 13.0 run. I dragged all last year and people that now me say I launch very well (other AWD drivers). I admit it was no 1.6 but a 13.5?

I have no top end, I can feel it, it just flattens out.

Btw I know you aren't trying to be a dick and I really appreciate all feedback, so thank you.

Mind you thins was feb of 2006, I could have a crack like you say (VF39 bs) that developed after this was done. I need a cable and I can log. I think maybe someone up here has one I can barrow, going to check it out.

On IM with Mioke right now trying to come up with a game plan to add more power before I can afford the whole Green setup like I want. Those things take 4-6 weeks to build anyway . Taxes RAPED me this year, property and income. Was 9k total

power looks like it stays consistent, but yeah, I've heard those cracks develope rather quickly.

Mike'll take care of you for sure...

have you messed with the AVC-R after your tune to try to get more HP out of the car?

If the ECU sees a different boost curve then it wants, it WILL start pulling timing as it thinks there is something wrong.

Throw the car back on a dyno the way it sits and see if you have a huge drop on the top end.
