Does that sound reasonable?

compression and leakdown first, I ended up having to change the headgasket. I was running about 20PSI on a 20g though so I really cant complain

So, the verdict is that this is almost certainly a rip-off, eh?

Both the repair costs and the the trade-in value...

Dont go to the lousy dealer, I wouldn't hate them so much if they didnt lie to people and rip them off like crazy.

Since you're in SJ, take the 25 min drive to GST motorsports off Industrial in Hayward. Make an appointment by calling them www.GSTmotorsports.com and they will do honest and affordable work, and you wont be paying 2k, I can tell you that much

2K just makes me cringe, especially since they said your valves needed to be adjusted.

Even though I am totally clueless, that quote smelled funny to me too.

But I have trusted these guys for the past 8 years, so I didn't expect that from them.

So, I am gathering possible shops.

Already got:

www.GSTmotorsports.com
and
http://www.eqtuning.com/

There is also:

http://www.garage1auto.com/

Do you know them?

Garage 1 is closer, but I want good work and I don't mind driving.

I just did a KBB estimate on my car yesterday for ****s-n-giggles... my 02 with 98k miles.. was like $8,500 private party.

Being that you have less miles you would seemingly get more $$$

Take your car in to GST and have them take a look
