Does that sound reasonable?
My Subaru Impreza WRX 2002 needs repair:
- A/C repair: I was quoted $1492.
- Valve clearance adjustment: I was quoted $950.
I got misfires on cylinder #1, #3 and #4. The car has less than 75K miles on it. (less than 10K miles per year) (I never red-lined it or drove it too harshly.)
As for trade-in value, I was quoted $5K, without the repairs. $6K, with the repairs.

omg
First off, you dont adjust the valves on a WRX, theyre lying to you.
please take it to one of the trusted subie shops here in the bay area forum, try GST up in Hayward first.

I will not post here who gave me those quotes. If you really want to know, I can send you a PM.
My problem is that I don't know much about how much things should cost, so I come here in peace and seek some help.
I hope that's OK, or I'll have to trust what I am told.

There's no valve lash adjustment needed unless you're rebuilding the heads.
The a/c repair we'd need to know more about as there are many parts that can be replaced/repaired.
The misfires are generally related to spark plug gap or coil packs (assuming the engine is not down on compression).
Thanks

I had no funny noise, no vibration, no funny smell, nothing. To me, it appears to drive as well as ever before.
Went to the shop, they scanned it, took the cylinder #1 reading. Cleared the code. Gave it back to me.
3 days later, the "Check Engine" light came back on. Again, on a cold start, in the morning. I drove it for a week before taking it back in.
They scanned it and saw codes for misfires on cylinder #1, #3 and #4.
Still no funny noise, no vibration, no funny smell, nothing. And it still appears to drive as well as ever before.
