DIY wheel painting
Hi all,
I've decided to paint my wheels. I'm looking to do a flat satin black. Can you guys recommend any good products? Ie, high temp paint/brand? A good nondamaging cleaner? Primer? Thanks!

Duplicolor products work great....but for a plain color like black...just get cheap stuff.
If you plan to clear coat over the top, it needs to be high heat/UV rated....or it will yellow over time. They sell wheel specific clear at most auto parts stores.

This is as easy as it gets... Prime and paint and you only really need 2 cans. Easy to use trigger too.

Powder coating would be nice but I heard it was not so good on forged wheels. Something about weakening the metal. If I'm wrong, then sign me up!
If in doubt, FLAT OUT

Low temp bake should be OK for forged, but I've heard the same thing. It is the standard high temp that I think would be considered an issue, so that's something you ask the finishing shop AFAIK.

A lot of contradictory info about, some saying even above 350F is potentially a concern for the 6000series Al-alloy in typical BBS forged wheels.
DabiDa, what oven temp does your powdercoat shop use, and for how long an anneal time?
First off, plastidip can be nice for your wheels HOWEVER you throw off the balance unless you are perfect with your application.
I sand blasted, primed and sprayed my wheels myself. Rust-o-leum midnight black metallic with the 2x clear.

To me, satin looks better and stays clean (a little) longer, especially in black.
