It def makes me feel better about that parking fee. Look at it as your way of saving a park. (Not to mention all the fees we had to pay to rent the place, but parking will still be more expensive then renting the place! )
It doesn't go directly to the park. It goes into a big 'pot' and then get divided as the state budget allows.

He said this is because nobody will pay attention to a closed sign, and the land cannot be allowed to become a public health risk.

He said the other reason is to free up money in other areas, in particular "boating" money is a big target as well as other earmarked monies. The fees etc., gained from boating can only be spent on the waterways. Arnold wants this money for other things, so that if he can get the legislature to release boating money for the parks, he can then take whatever money he wants out of boating and put it into the general fund.

As I understand it, over 75% of fees and taxes are earmarked for very particular products/projects and to break the "earmark" requires the legislature to do it. The Gov cannot. So by attacking popular things like parks, he is trying to get the legislature to shake loose some of the earmarked items and move that money into the general fund.

Note: He did say that there would probably be a lot of park rangers that would lose their jobs in either case.
So, rather than write everything out and present a logical case to reallocate the boating money, he is going to try to twist the legislature's arm by sacrificing OUR park and putting even MORE people out of work?

This sucks. The wedding photographer I work for is married to a State Parks employee - and they live in the park. I wonder what happens to them?

Tell Gov. Schwarzenegger: Don't shut down 220 state parks!

Hard times call for extreme measures, but it just doesn't make sense to cut state parks funding to zero. Our state parks bring in critical revenue, and are even more important refuge for Californians in this economy.

Use the form to email Gov. Schwarzenegger, telling him to protect our state parks.

Follow these 3 easy steps to help out.
