Did your computer come with Windows?
Hey,
I bought a VAIO laptop from best buy 6 months ago and it seriously came with the bare minimums. No manual and hardly any CDs. Worst part is that it didn't come with a windows CD. It's running like garbage right now and I would like to reinstall windows but lack the CD. Was it supposed to come with windows? Thanks.

*also, is there a way to keep the programs i have on my computer? i use some of the programs that came on it like VAIO ZONE quite frequently and would like to somehow keep those. Thanks*

vaio zone is probably on a cd that came with your comp.
you should just borrow a copy of windows and install it.
it seems like every computer now a days gets f*cked up by spyware and spam and all that. I just bought a brand new dell a month ago and its already slow.

Most computers now days do not come with recovery cd's. You have to make your own. Don't say it never gave you the chance because every computer has an annoying popup that tells you to make the cd's. You have to tell it that you don't want to make them before it goes away. You can still try to make them. On sony's there will be an icon in the control panel(classic view) called viao recovery or something like that. If you double click it, you have a choice of restoring the computer or making the CD's. Computers don't come with manuals anymore, they just put them in to the computer. Most people never read them/throw them away anyways.
About spyware/adware. D/L adaware, spybot, or buy spysweeper. Also, use firefox instead of IE.
PM me if you have any problems restoring your computer.

Ahh... so that's what the recovery is for. I'm running home right now. I have access to XP Pro but if it's no different, I'll stick with Home. Silly question but is a system recovery the same as just reinstalling windows? Thanks.

I don't see any windows on my computer, all I see is a black box. ok ok lame lame joke
Seriously, like tkarabian mentioned, many don't come with cd's now, burn your own, more convenient anyway, burn as many copies as you like. My gf's dell xp cd was stored on the hard drive, what a way to cut back cost even more, I guess dell doesn't get FAR deals on cdr's like we do.
But anyway, usually you should be able to find it in the help program(not windows help, but the help/support installed by Sony). Or go on Sony's website and go to support

Professional > Home/Media Center
It's super basic, runs less crap in the background. It's much more configurable when you install it, and afterwards. ( I like to remove things like MSN explorer and MSN messenger, add fax capability, etc.)
I would use pro. It's much easier to network, seems to be way more stable. It'll play any game that runs on Home.
If you need a copy, you where to PM me

For Spyware, malware, and everything else, it's pretty easy to stop getting all of it. Get spybot, adaware, and spyware blaster (all free programs). Spybot and adaware team up to be a complete system scan and spyware blaster allows very little spyware to actually infect your computer in the first place.
Oh, and stop visiting your **** sites, that's where most of it comes from

you can use any windows media. as long as you have the right version.
if you had xp HOME and try to use an XP PRO disc, and you enter the 25 digit license code, it will fail.
the license code should be on the machine these days.
i hate manufacturers. they cant spend a friggin 10 cents for a damn media.
damn them... damn them all to hell...
