Diablo Subaru (Walnut Creek - service work and aftermarket mods)?

I need to take my sti for service but I'm kinda scared because i have a hks exhaust and i dont know if they make note of that and refuse future warranty work if needed. Has anyone dealt with them with aftermarket exhaust?

I don't know about them refusing warranty, but I brought my wagon in for a recall service, and got it back with a nice 6"x8" dent in the fender. Sure they had it fixed, but still, left a bad taste in my mouth.

I've had a pretty neutral experience with Diablo. They're very overpriced compared to other stealerships I've been to, but overall the experience wasn't that bad. Since you're in the east bay, I'd recommend them over Livermore Subaru.

When I brought my car in, it was decently modified, though, most of the mods I have aren't very obvious. However, I do have a full turbo back, and they didn't say anything about it. Although, this was way back, probably around '03 or '04, so personnel may have changed since that time.

Talk to Colin in Parts. Let him know that I told you to talk to him. He may be able to give you a bit more insight about service.

Ya, I heard Livermore Subaru is the way to go. Theres nothing really wrong with Diablo except the limited selection they have and the kinda awkward people working there.

No no, I really hate Livermore Subaru. My brake pad was sticking a bit because my slider pin needed to be regreased, so I brought it to them to diagnose the problem. After they diagnosed it, the service manager, yes the manager, came out to me saying I need new brakes. I asked him what he meant by new brakes, and he laughed at me saying "you know what brakes are." To which I replied, do you mean pads, rotors, calipers, lines, fluid, or the whole assembly? He stopped laughing and looks completely lost at what I just asked him, and just said, you need to ask the tech these types of questions.

In the end, I realized they didn't even check my brakes at all, because they didn't even have my wheel lock key to take my wheels off.

Yea, I wouldn't go to Livermore. They suck. On my wife's brand new legacy we bought from Diablo, a CEL was popping up and we took it to them and they set my wife up with a loaner car and got it fixed without any hassle. The car isn't modified, so I don't know what to tell you about that.

warranty/recall service? If it's just regular maintenance service, go to Speed Element or something. I am sure they are mod friendly.

I used to go to Diablo because it was convenient (they're literally less than a mile down the street from my work). I would only go to them for scheduled maintenance/oil changes, etc. The service manager gave me a big long speech about making sure I only used SPT parts, etc., etc...(my car was completely stock at the time.)

On my last time there I noticed a gash in my hood after picking it up from an oil change. After some discussion, they finally said they'd make it right. I scheduled an appointment and dropped my car off.

Turns out they had some PDR guy come out and "try" to fix the hood. When i picked up the car you could totally see overspray where his paint strokes ended and the finish was clearly not as glossy as the rest of the hood. After another appointment they got it to the point where I was satisfied with it. Mind you I'd just about had enough of the place at this point and just wanted to get my car out of there. The finish is not perfect, but you'd have to really know to look. I'll eventually just have the whole dang hood repainted at a body shop.

Where they park the cars (either the lot by the service bays or the dirt lot across with the inventory cars) are a bit tight on space. So I'm always leery about having my car sit there.

As far as mods go, I've seen a good amount of mods on one of the employee cars there, so dunno...

Good luck! (Sorry for the rant all)

There are definitely better dealers in the bay area, but they are ok at best. They've done work on my modded car in the past as long as the mod doesn't relate to the problem. If your just taking it in for a routine service though, then it shouldn't be a problem, I mean your paying them right?
