Datsun 510 ?s

Hello, bayarea group. i am wondering how many of you might be able to advise me or at least share your opinion. I have smoked a motor & now stripped the gears out of my Rex. i think i'll try using a different platform as an outlet for harsh driving. i have a 510 available to me ,It is a completly stock '70 510. I'm thinking motor tranny swap, suspension build up. I am hoping to get a auto-x car that is streetable. if you have ideas or can suggest info or part sources. I would be thankfull. Vince....Ps... Got a tranny for me? Second gear is a thing of the past.../.

Sounds like a good project car...where will you get parts for it? Or I might say, where have you gotten parts in the past?

Datsun 510s are awesome project cars, and they make great hosts for SR20DETT swaps.

International B (Aaron) can help you a bit with this, and there are also many places around the bay that customize these cars, or build nice motors (like Rebello Racing in Concord).

Good Luck!

David ('68 BMW 2002 project car owner, could afford to complete it if it was a Datsun 510!)

Datsun should also be called Lego...the parts swap on so many of them. It wasn't hard to find parts for our rally car....

Everyone loves them....put a KA24(240sx) in there...the sound of that motor is awesome!! Most everyone says to stay away from the nap z motors, but there are lots of possibilities!

thanks for the help everyone. i've done some research. i have gotten a preliminary plan to run KA24DE from a 240sx. I just gotta make sure that the tranny will be right. i'll also need things like seats, steering wheel & hub. Not that i expect my beloved I-club to be my source for these parts. I just figgured i'd mention it incase any of you have these things. I am just getting started so things are wide open at this point. I did call Ranco & they can hook up a complete 240 swap for 1200.00.

A Chevy 350 would fit with "some" cutting. You could build a mild motor for $2k that would make that car really fast.

Find a junkyard transmission that is still usable and a ford 9" rear.

That would be one sweet car.

Yea, i always wanted to run a V-8 in some small datsun ( z or 510) However that would seriously limit my Auto-x hopes.

i had a 72 datsun 240z and that thing is sooo fun to drive. to bad it's gone. i bet the 510 would make a great project car. if you are going to autox, i wouldnt put in a chevy 350 motor. just do a sr20 swap or go with the bigger rb25/26TT

I'm looking at 510's and early 90's 240sx's, anybody have a website for shops that do sr20det engine swaps into either of these cars?

Car Info: Random, yet well planed selection of jdm cult cars
suafast, 510s are great cars, i would love to have another one, but $$$ is tight, so i stick with my rex for now. since the 70 is smog exempt, you can put a jdm motor in there no problem and never get hasseld. i would reccomend doing an sr20det swap. i havent seen one in a 510 b4 and since it bolts to the same xmember as a ka does, it should not be a problem to get in there. if you want help with the wiring or sourcing parts shoot me a pm, i most likely can hook you up with someone that has the parts, makes theem, or knows where to get them. another good parts source is the datsun 510parts outlet. i get about 3 calls a week for them, used to go there all the time. since my studio is called 510studios, people call 411 and ask for 510 parts and get my #. so 510 parts# is 510 252 1001. ask for troy and tell him aaron tressell sent you.

good luck with your project.

Aaron
