D E E P _ P O W D E R !

...as if all the powderhounds out there didn't know already!

check out what i just read fr kirkwood's website! yeah, i know resorts over-report but even if they fibbed a li'l bit, the conditions out there will be phenomenal! did ya hear that... P H E N O M E N A L !

here are the best parts of their news:
...The word of the day remains “DEEP.” Deeper by the minute, in fact. We’ve received five feet of snow in the past 24 hours and almost nine feet since this thing started. Weatherman says it’s not over yet. This one’s setting up for the record in Tahoe; may even break a record at Kirkwood by the time it’s over....

Not only is there an utterly silly amount of snow out there, it’s dry. The moisture content is 9%... dry and cold, just the way we like our champagne. Can’t really think of a more appropriate way to ring in the New Year… Here’s to health, happiness and champagne powder for all our friends!...

fyi: there has been so much snow in a relatively short amount of time that the resorts cannot keep up w/ their safety procedures. sugarbowl's site said that they were closed yesterday & are still finishing up this morning. caltrans has been in the same boat. lots of closures & chain controls over the last 36+ hours. the good news is that resort operations & road openings/clearings will be much better by the afternoon.

don't get too wasted tonite, and tomorrow will be off the hook! it's gonna be a bit brisk out though. the best day so far looks to be monday! break plans or other obligations, play hookey, call in sick, etc. you will not be disappointed!

finally, here's the latest for tahoe fr the nat'l weather svc.

let it snow! get your shred on!

actually, i went up for the day to bear valley on wed! the only downers for the day were:

1. really slow going fr the chain control area to the resort. it took twice as long for that stretch than normal. not everyone out there drives a subie!

2. the lower mtn was closed! B O O O O O O ! there is some fun to be had down in there!

3. serious trouble w/ the backside triple chair(i think it's called pooh). it sure lived up to it's name that day!

lots of fun for a really short day on the slopes! we bounced out by 3:30. we didn't wanna have to be out there w/ folks who weren't all that comfy driving/sliding in the snow!

luckily, we're in a serious cycle of precip. the nat'l weather svc forecasts snow till at least thurs. yeehaw! guess who's gotta trip set up next weekend?

My friend and I went up to Dodge Ridge this last Tuesday and the conditions were superb!!! We made a mental error and somehow took HWY 120 too quickly and before you knew it we were on our way to Dodge Ridge. Then we sakd f#$# it. And kept going. Got past chain control in a 2WD pickup and traffic was smooth sailing. Parked it. Snowboarded all day. One side of the mountain was blizzard like conditions. The back side was crystal clear. There was like 2-3 feet of powder on that day. Got done. Put chains on his truck. Drove out and went home.

And it has been raining for the last 5 days straight. God I wish I didn't have to go to work on Monday!!!

i get off work tuesday morn, and i am heading home. it should be a killer week up there this week. all the flatlanders will have gone home, and the mountain will be MINE!!!!

the biggest decision i have this week is what pow boards to use...hmmm

the 190 atomic powder plus' or the 193 head monster 103's... suck a big decision.

if anyone is up this week and going to sugar, i will be there early in the am everyday until friday.

Went to sugarbowl today. Holy snow. I forgot how much powder wears you out. Muh legs hurt.

My friend got stuck in the trees and it took him forever to get him out. He unstrapped and stepped... sunk to his mid-section in snow!

SOOOO much snow it's insane.

New Years Eve was the bomb......
5ft of new snow at Sugarbowl after being closed for a day.
A break in the storm, and even some classic Tahoe bluebird.
Got 1st chair on Disney and blew my load.
Been here at SB since the 26th and leave on the 5th.

Making the "O" face every run

I was up at bear valley yesterday. I was tiiiiiiiiiiiiight. There wasn't hardly anyone there. Thick POW POW!!!! It was like floating on a cloud. There are still a ton of clean runs if you look for 'em. Nothing is better than shooting through some trees and realizing you are the only one that has been there that day. Smooth sailing baby!!!!. Bear (lower section) is open. I got pretty mangled up a couple of times, white out+pushed powder+high speed=death wish!!!

Went to Alpine Meadows through the snowstorm on the 29th, treked to the grocery store on 30th, snowboarded Alpine on the 31st (great conditions but started to snow at 4pm and everyone there left in a big hurry!), left on the 1st through the snowstorm again. 7 hours trip to and from San Francisco. An excellent vacation.!
