Cut plates.

Wsup BAIC?

I'm looking to know the full extent of the downsides/consequences of having a cut front plate. I know it's illegal and I've heard it can be considered a felony. However, I've heard and had instances of cops seeing them and not doing anything. An excuse I have is that it's better than having no front plate at all. Also, if I ever get in trouble, I can make up a story and say that I've already ordered new ones.

Can I be pulled over and or get in trouble severely for having a cut plate? And can I get in trouble if a civilian sees it and reports it? Just a couple of questions I can think of.

Also, share some of your experiences, or some you know, with cut plates.

Inform me of what you know. Thanks.

My excuse for no front plate is i bought it used that way. otherwise i'd rather pay $10 a year in fix it tickets. F front plates.

Dont say youve ordered them because they can probably tap into DMV from their cop computer and catch you in a lie.

But the best thing is say it came that way and you never really thought it was that important to go to the DMV for a new one since the letters arent deformed in any way.

also dont back into perpendicular parking spots in SF. do try to hide your front plate in bushes etc... because meter maids will see it and write you up. and any busy downtown areas

I have to say, I've never heard of "Cut Plates"..

Please do explain because I can not see this looking any cooler than a regular "uncut" plate..

boy, i must be getting old or just totally not with the trend... but what is a 'cut plate'? I assume you cut portion of the license plate? for what purpose? if you can still read the license, i don't see a problem. but if you cut it to alter the license number, I am sure it's illegal.

I think cut plates almost look european if you cut them a 1/2 inch above and below each letters.

Instead of an ugly rectangle, you get a clean looking bar across your bumper and doesnt block airflow.

another reason Europeans rule

yeah... messing with plates will get you in trouble, it's better to just bend it, that way you can just say people backed into your car and it bent the plate

I see, I see. I just cut it to make it smaller, no blockage, and because I like it better. Not following any trend.

No front plates FTW!!! Been almost 3 years with no front plates an not one cop has ever bothered me aside from an isolated recent south bay meet. Cop threatened everyone w/o front plates with a ticket if we didn't leave. There were people with cut plates there and the cop didn't even give them a second glance.

Hey that was a buddy of mine and me.^ He inspected each car briefly and should have seen my plate.

IIRC, any alterations to the plates in kalif are illegal.

including having the wacky license FRAMES, which may or may not cover any part of ID'ing the plates...

granted, this law is so far down them totem pole, but it's in the books...

my 0.02

I know that the plate has to be visible on the front and if I remember correctly it's not your property (much like a mail box) so cutting it is an offense. I don't have a plate at all and just put a silver "wrx plate delet" on the front and I've never been given any problems at all. My friend got in trouble for his tint and saw a euro plate on his car but the cop told him he only had to put the real one on and didn't even put a verbal on his ticket. He did mention that the plate in the window is NOT ok and that in Ca. you will get ticketed just the same as not having it.

+1 for no front plate or plate delet.
