My car was broken into in Livermore a few months back. I had my wallet in the car, Garmin GPS, iPod and some expensive sunglasses. The stupid kids took the 20$ cash and my iPod. Didn't touch the credit cards, GPS or sunglasses. This was in a nice neighborhood, which is where car thieves go because people have nice stuff and nice cars. Sucks about your stuff I know how you feel.

yeah, thieves made me sell my nice SLR camera, you cant take good pics unless you bring your camera EVERYWHERE with you...

i might bolt down a safe box in my spare wheel well, since i dont carry my spare anyways...but a safe is extra weight

I think the key is to make your car look like there's nothing worth stealing in it.

My stock stereo wasn't touched at all.

I'm thinking I need to rig up a storage bag under the glove compartment to hold stuff, but can't be seen from outside the car. Then make sure the rest of the car is bare.

Maybe I need an alarm system. I think it would have deterred these "petty thieves who knew what they were doing".

in SF, i never leave anything in view, it was completely empty looking the night i got broken into. The faceplate of my stereo hidden, nothing anywhere.

They got in, popped my trunk (maybe i should relocate the cable?) and were off.

They left my stereo faceplate, gift cards, skateboard...weird.

Sorry to hear what happened... that really sucks!!!

About 8 months ago, both my left & right sides neighbors' cars got broken into in front of their homes (3 cars total & two were actually parked on driveway). There was no damage nor marks to windows or keyholes! Still a mystery how they did it... super remote? Nothing valueable was taken... maybe a jacket, which was returned a couple of days later! WTF?!

A month prior to that, a different car of my same left side neighbor was broken into... twice in a week!!! Her school backpack was stolen & recovered nearby a middle school by the principal. We were suspecting kids from that middle school were bored & did this.

Yes... what goes around will come around! I don't mean just their car or stuff will get stolen back but something bigger unfortune will happen to those low life bastards!!!

even the suction cup markings are enough to tempt a thief.
