Meh, shooting .223/5.56 out of anything less than a 16" barrel makes the ballistics of the bullet that of a .22LR on crack. Once you get to 16" the bullet travels at the velocity that it is intended and starts to tumble when it impacts, which is what makes it so deadly.

for CQB, the shorter the better.

actually, adding a supressor is even better when you and another team member are trying to clear out a room and the muzzle flash can do a lot more harm.

plus trying to swing a 16"+ barrel through a doorway can be chancy

a nice shorty (7-10" barrel with a short suppressor) makes a great entry rifle.

or a surpressed MP5 or a P90...
