IIRC, on the huey cobras (and maybe the apaches), the rotor blades have explosive charges to blows them off, so the pilots and CWOs can bail out safely.

Huey Cobras, correct. Apaches, not so correct. They have to ride it out.....

I going to try and rent out of concord. I think they still rent 22r's.

the explosive charges are where the main blades attach to the main rotor. that way, the blades aint gonna chop the crew up.

the rotor can still spin cause it's still attached to the engine. or maybe by design, when the crew initiates the ejection sequence, the rotor disconnects. it then starts to auto rotate.

meanwhile, the explosive charges blow and the blades fall away. the crew can then bail out.
