Yeah... like I said, heard it directly from my HR Vice President, and anyone else I know that's had to deal with it in the last year says do it online.

Now my boss says the State is trying to figure out how to keep the core of our program open. IF it happened we'd all be rehired as contract workers, no benefits, for 3-6 month term until they can relocate the program/servers/data to the Richmond campus, or re allocate us under a UCSF contract. If the Richmond move happens, they probably wouldn't need us IT/Admin staff with those staff already in existence @ that campus.

Thus I'm still assuming the worst and job hunting.

Sorry to hear that! It's a tough competitive market for design.

My fiancee is a graphic/web designer and her business has really dropped off in recent months. Even regular clients are slow to finish up current contracts as most are scared what is going to happen. You have to be willing to be flexible with pricing and work with small budgets.

You will be able to pick up random work on craigslist, but there is alot of competition for it right now and often people are slow to respond.

Time to work on your website and portfolio while on unemployment.

Sounds like you have alot of experience, so you will get back on top soon.

Thanks charlie. One can only hope. Who knows.... maybe it'll bring that next step forward that I've been looking for. I just feel like crap because I have a wife now and someone that relies on me. So this makes it really hard. I'm a provider by nature so not being able to do that just kills me.

Idivinag... I did... I'd gladly do it again at this point... haaaa. And hell... if the police thing works out I will be DA MAN. LOL.

I just got a call from the one place I interviewed at.

I'll be starting there on April 20th. Drive is a little far but I'm actually getting a bit of a pay raise so that'll even out.

Keep your head up; there IS work out there if you are skilled, can interview well, and have the follow through.

For me it's getting through that first part of the process... the HR person. I don't have a degree so that door gets closed quickly a lot of the time. But I learn and adapt really fast and I have a lot of experience, about 12 years now.
I also interview really well. I am a friendly guy and do pretty well in the interview and test process.

Every job I've EVER interviewed for I've been offered. Including the one where I was gonna be designing user interfaces for primarily *****. I turned that one down... had no clue it was **** and I'd NEVER made a UI in my life. Haaaaa. Wasn't enough money either.

So... keep me in mind guys. I'll post some links here pretty soon.
