Bump from the grave! I just went down to Costco and as of the end of last year they no longer mount or balance tires that you do not buy from them. Bummer. I live in the east bay, any good shops? I also checked Wheel Works and they charge $21 per tire to mount/balance...ouch! I'll try America's Tire Co. next. Anyone know of a better place?

EDIT-I just checked with America's Tire Co. and they charge $16 per tire to balance and $10 per tire to mount/dismount...so $26 per tire.

Cheaper, anyone?

I paid 88 bucks for my mounting at Americas tire with lifetime rotation/balancing and free replacement warranty

 

i always thought that was the policy at costco. their tires only...

walmart used to charge $7.50 per tire for LIFETIME BALANCE... maybe $8 or $10 now.

and i think it was like another $7.50 to remount/remove.

just depends how much you trust them.

i have about 6 tires for my truck, which i couldnt care less about getting scratched, that i deal with.

another plus is that any walmart will honor the lifetime thingee...

 

I just called them and they charge $72 for removal and disposing of old tires/mounting new tires and balancing. Not much better.

I just checked them. They are the cheapest yet, but I don't know if I would trust them with a nice rim, as you said. Here are their prices...

.70 cents disposal fee
$3.50 for removal of old tire and install of new
$7.50 to balance (lifetime balance and rotation services)

These prices are per tire...so it comes out to $11.70 per tire, which is $46.80 for all four tires. What is funny is all the other shops I talked to asked a bunch of questions like how big my rim is and such and they based their prices on that. Walmart didn't ask any questions when they gave me their quote.

This sound like the place for me to have some snow tires mounted on my stock rims. Ofcourse, I'm always open to more shop suggestions, as I will have other tires installed on my 17's sooner or later, and I will probably want alittle more care taken. I'll keep you all updated on how good of a job they do.

America's Tire Co, charges $1/inch for balancing　(so for example　16 in rim would cost $16). Though, if you buy tires from them it's all included in the price and ATC usually has the best tire prices around.

 

just go to walmart, if your wheels are in good condition just be sure to check em afterwards

If they mess something up, call them on it.

They are a huge company, if they mess something up i'm sure they'll stand by their name and take care of you...its not like you're going to Joe's Tire Depot or some mom and pop shop.

I'd trust my car for tire stuff @ walmart WAY before i'd trust big-zero

 

I try to never give Walmart my money unless I absolutely have to. That place gives me the creeps.

So if I buy a set of $300 snow tires ($75 per tire) from them I will pay $300+ tax, not a penny more? And that includes dismounting and disposal of old tires and mounting and balancing of new?

They do charge a $10 installation fee (for all 4 to dismount the old tires), a required state hazardous waste fee (which costco should charge because it's state law), and a disposal fee.

 

I got a set of 4 Nokian tires mounted on stock rims at Walmart in Union City last week for $22 total. It was $3.50/tire mount, $1.75/tire valve stems.

One thing to do, though, is go early . They open at 6, and I would show up as early as you can to avoid waiting practically all day, like I did.
