Corrective Eye Surgery
Hey BAIC,
I was just wondering if any of you guys have had laser eye surgery or know of anyone that has? Have you heard any positive/negative feedback about it. If so, which doctors did you or someone you know went to? I am looking into getting it since I hate contacts which irritate the hell out of my eyes and wearing glasses limits me to alot of outdoor activity. Thanks guys.
Andy

yea, me too. I was really hesitant when it FIRST came out but now I see more and more people having it done. A few people from my work got it done about a year ago and they love it and havent had any problems. I still want to do some research on long term effects though. Im sure they have improved this procedure ALOT since it first came out.

I'm getting far sighted in my old age, but I worry that having my near field corrected my screw up my still awesome distance and night vision, this reminds me- I need to get in to see an optometrist
A good friend of mine had it done a few years ago, no problems whatsoever. He had the worst vision, and now he's pretty close to 20/20. I'm definitely thinking of doing it.

I have looked into this on several occasions and here is a summary of most important things to consider if you will even qualify (at reputable place that's not out to just take your money)...
- Your age; it can be risky if you get it at an age where your body is still growing/changing. I was told your vision has to be stable in order for safe long term results. I was strongly advised again the surgery when I was 25 because my vision was still deteriorating, and come back when at least two years in a row there was no change in my condition.
- Your cornea size; apparently not all cornea sizes and shapes can be operated safely. I believe there are problems if they are too large or too small; I was told mine were slightly too large. This can pose the risk of getting double vision and blurriness since not the entire cornea will be fixed.
- Money; if you are even thinking whether or not you can afford this, would have to shop around or not go to the best certified experienced doctor than stay away...I had a buddy back in Chicago get bad results when he cut corners. You get what you pay for; equipment and experience wise.

thats great info LxJLthr. Ill probably end up setting up a consultation once I find the right doctor. Ive heard alot of good things about that doctor in Silicon Valley they always promote on the radio, guy that does the operations for the 49ers.

My coworker has had the operation and says he loves it. He was tellng me to get it. I want to do it in the future, just like you Andy I'm blind as a bat without my glasses.
I don't want to wear contacts. The whole thought of touching of eye... I dunno.
One reason I want the operation is I want sunglasses and prescription sunglasses so way too expensive, especially the kinds I want and apparently the ones I want can't be prescription due to the actual shape of the lens.
