I thought from your first post that you weren't looking for any "show car" why not just get it done at a local reputable autobody shop? I understand The Works is a high end shop and they work with Ferrari based customers, so thats why they can charge that much.

mistaanime - the plan is to get a few quotes. The Works is who I consider "the best" consider them a baseline

Photos if anyone cares - it's hard to get the camera to pickup scratches on the shiny black paint

Its actually amazingly easy to capture scratches on a dark colored car, you just have to have overcasting light from behind or above, so that the light can bounce off and reflect off the individual scratches. I do see in some of the shots, the usual mild surface defects black paint would endure. If you were to have your vehicle repainted a similar dark shade, not properly washing it periodically with the right tools and techniques will quickly cause it to return to the current state you're in.

You might want to look into having a professional personally inspect the vehicle and enhance/restore the paint through paint correction methods which would be a fraction of the costs quoted by the body shop for a full respray. Other areas that have paint or clear coat failure, I would recommend having some similar color vinyl applied so you have a close to color matched scheme.

Ok, so Apex doesn't want to do full paint. They don't want to take on any more big jobs right now

Painting only takes about a week or so, if the car is a primary job and no other jobs are stacked up. Its the labor to fix all the side panel defects, dents, and uneven contours that would make the job take longer. But it would take a couple of weeks to thoroughly clean out all the surfaces that has been redone. Unless its a shotty shop, then they just wheel cars out left and right.
