I'm sick of all these douche bags recording scenarios like this. The guy could have easily rolled down his window, answered a few questions, and been on his way. Instead he chooses to setup his camera and be a douche...

I agree, All I have to say is no drinks, valid drivers license and insurance/reg and a minute later im free to go, Hell sometimes they dont even ask questions, Just look at your eyes and they can tell... But the 3-4 times i've driven through check points, they usually just hand me a brochure for safe driving and call 911 if I see a drunk driver! I see no need to cause more trouble for LEO that are trying to drunk drivers.

Your right, it's horribly inconvenient for law enforcement officers to be held accountable for their actions. Bet you'd change your tone if they had the k9 scratching at your paint.

Your right about the k-9 scratching the paint but i think the point most saying this guy handled this wrong is the fact that k-9 wouldn't have gotten within 10 feet of his car if he just did as the officer asked especially since he really did have nothing to hide.
I see both sides tho.

What if the law started routine home inspections for potential criminal activity? Still ok with that?

I think regardless of how the guy handled the situation or not he did it to prove a point, which he did.

It has happened to me, my friends, and family multiple times when police over use their power at times when it was not at all needed. Which shouldn't happen and we should know how to protect ourselves if it happens to us.

Great point.

It seems to me that many people here are perfectly happy surrendering their rights and living under the ever watchful and suspicious eye of "big brother." Laugh if you want, but that is the reality of a police state.

There is NOTHING WRONG with standing up for your rights and recording any of your interactions with LEOs. Especially when their word is worth more to a judge than yours.

Remember that you are innocent until PROVEN guilty, you are entitled to due process, and you cannot be forced to incriminate yourself...even though you have to clearly say so verbally now. There are some grey areas with these checkpoints for sure.

So this is a chip on the old block. Let one foot in, they're going to take the mother load eventually. Technically we should have the right to refuse to answer the questions as long as we're abiding by the rules. That is our rights, will it cause a hassle? Most likely. Can it be avoided by showing your license if they ask or rolling down the window etc? Most likely

But do we HAVE to do it and not HASSLED for it? Yes, but that isn't what happens. That would be illegal upon the state to force someone out of the car if they are abiding by the law. But yea, I believe all cars nowadays should be like up in Russia with everyone trying to get a law suit. Keep the device for your own safety, and yes an auto upload feature would do wonders. I can ONLY imagine the amount of evidence that is smuggled and destroyed before others get their hands on it.

You get Extremists on both ends of the line. One will show this recording and exercise their rights, others in the middle are more modest, some less modest, and others on the other end will violate when they can or want. I'm glad we get to see this both sides of a story. (Barring the media, we all know they construe info all day. I actually like posts by individuals rather than the news, the Media is super political and cover up lots of parts of the story to convey what they want us to see and believe.)

There is nothing wrong with recording esp when the leo words are worth more than yours. The only probelm with proven until guilty is if the judge allows the evidence to be shown on court.

I was on my way to the track at thunderhill and I just happen to be at the wrong gas station. All these other fixed up cars pulled in to the gas station along with a chp. He ask everyone to take out license and registrations etc etc.. why? Because he was told by a pedestrian that a bunch of cars, blue ,yellow, silver, white, and black were speeding down the highway. So he proceeded to write everyone there pumping gas a speeding ticket.

While this was happening my friend was recording everyone getting a ticket at the gas station .

In court, I pled non guilty and came back the next time to provided evidence and the judge did not grant it, but instead charged everyone in the court room a speeding ticket. Justice? I think not. Til this day I still have the video on cd and was contemplating on posting it, but whats the point? Its been 6 years.
