I had an '01 Frontier 4x4 before this car. I had a truck because I carried my dirtbikes in it. It's awesome for hauling stuff, and going off-road is fun. I tried keeping the truck around after I bought the FXT, but I never used it and parking it was a hassle, so I sold it.
I'd love to buy a beater truck just for hauling stuff. Otherwise, Subaru is just more fun to drive.

I wouldn't buy a truck unless I really had the need for it...like towing or hauling big stuff. But you said the subie carries all you need to carry usually. People usually get sick of driving big huge cars around and usually want to downsize for sake of ease.

get whatever you want.
the whole "are you going to use it as a truck" argument doesn't fly. how many people use their wrx's in the snow? how many take them in the dirt? how many rally-x? how many auto-x?
any car beyond a geo metro was purchased based on personal preference and not much more. maybe a van for a big family, but most cars are purchased out of "want" and not "need".
if you want a truck, can afford a truck, and are willing to accept all that comes with owning a truck; get a truck.

I think trucks are wasted space unless you are going to be hauling things. Plus if you get a truck your gonna get people always asking you to help them move, or pick up there t.v, xmas tree, etc...
I was gonna get rid of my car for a tacoma, of a fj. I held off though and I'm glad i did I still love my 03.

Getting a truck right now for anything other than business is def not the smartest idea.
Only two valid reasons someone should get a truck:
1. If they require one for work
2. If they are so rich that the economy and gas prices don't even phase them.
Also, as sexy as the trucks may be, are you really ready to give up the handling/power/fun factor of a subie? If so, get ready for heavy/body roll inducing/sloppy gas guzzler.
I'm just sayin'...
