The worst problem in this kind of upgrade is running into a problem where your power supply does not put out enough juice and there goes another $50-100. So, if the memory and PSU aren't compatible, that's another $100-200 you'd sink in. For that max of $370, might as well put it into a new computer (w/o monitor of course).

well, my system is not THAT old, it was running core dual. So yes everything is compatible... In fact, the newer board/chipset combo is cheaper than the bx2 board I was looking at, only $120! 
And since I have Core 2 Dual sitting in my room, I also get to upgrade my processor while I am at it!

Unless the memory is compatible, then yes, that'sall it would cost you to get a new cpu and mb.
