Pretty much what Smurf said. If you can't go on the freeway, lane sharing will only get you to the front of the line at a red light, and that's only if it's safe to do so. Not that big of advantage. For the most part, I see scooters just going with the flow of traffic on city streets.

I'm going through a similar exercise after taking on an Oakland <-> San Mateo commute that involves chokes on the 238 connector and on the SM Bridge Eastbound in the evening. Along with the 25-odd MPG I can expect out of my stage 2 wagon, the congestion and the "extra gallon" of $4 bridge toll has me thinking about a bike. I'll let you know if an older BMW F650 or a Suzuki SV650 turns out to be a good idea (and yep, they're not exactly similar bikes...)

PRIUS BABY!!! My moms got an '05 and I have sticker-envy.

So I'm in the market for another hybrid with carpool stickers, 2006 or newer. PM me if you got one!!

Where are the haters now? Ohhhh.... at the gas pumps.. or riding scooters.

Thing used to be under $20 to fill up, now it's almost $40 ($38-40). Oh well, still great.

I am on a bike usually, and mostly because it is fun, gets me to work/home way faster and greatly offsets the cost of fuel so I don't worry too much spending $68 to fill up my car. I still think the Prius, and it's owners, are retarded.

I just picked up a 150cc scooter to buzz around town and to work and back. 150cc is enough to get my 225 *** moving up hills and stuff, but I wouldn't take it on the highway. But 45-50 for fast city roads is no problem at all.

Did I get to work faster this morning? No

Was I in a better mood when I got here? Hell Yeah!

Those are great bikes, excellent blend of torque and handling. I may end up selling my CB750 at some point, and an SV650S is what I will most likely look for.

I see tons of them around the San Jose/Milpitas area. I'd consider getting another one.

Yeah, for me though I think something bad may have to befall my CB750 before I upgrade. It was cheap, is cheap to maintain and is actually pretty damn fun. If I laid it over, it would be like "damn. well, have to find another one."

I commute on streets clogged with cars (which means several rounds of red lights at the SAME INTERSECTION) and expressways. I was under the impression that scooters, even the small ones, can do expressways.

I run san thomas expressway, which has a commuter lane.

Sounds like a time saver for me.
