Exactly. I pay $20 a month for my dsl because I'm an SBC *****, I have cingular phone, dish HD TV, SBC local and LD, as well as SBC DSL. I was getting ready to can my DSL a little over a year ago and called the service center. They said if I changed my long distance to them I qualified for some insane discount so I went for it, because I rarely use LD, I use Skype or my cell . The best part was right after I started getting the discount I had some troubles with the line. The tech came out, played with something in the box down the street and I have been uncapped ever since. I used to get 15KBps up and 150KBps down so constant it looked like a perfect line in my bandwidth monitor. Now I get about 70KBps up and 400BKps down(that's about 650Kb up and 3.2Mb down). It's not a rock solid speed, if I watch on the bandwidth monitor I can tell it's now the line limiting my speed, but it doesn't dip below 50KBps up and 300KBps down when I'm moving stuff so it's way happy, and for $20 a month I LOVE IT.

$15.00/month sounds mighty nice. Which service offers these kinds of prices in the bay area area code 408?

I live by San Jose state and mine is $20 a month, but I haven't re-negotiated lately. You should give sbc a call and see what they can do for you.

go to www.sbcdsl.com and check if it is available by typing in your home phone #.

It should be available. You are in Silicone Valley.

When the time is up, i call them and cancel, then sign up again.

Ha ha ha, its ghetto but it works for a poor student like me.

edgar,
Shoot Edgar,

I am with Comcast at the moment by the way. I forgot to mention that. I was paying $11 per month for about 2 years and then it came up to $49. DSL is just too slow in my area. They say because of the my house being 10 feet too far from the sub-station. Blah!

Yeah, I had dslextreme after my horrible experience w/ SBC. It's way better, but my Cable OWNS my dslextreme. I DL torrents around 250-400kb/s. My avg DL speed is about 350ish and I sometimes see 700s depending. One reason why I went comcast is that I didn't want to get a phone line just for DSL. I'm happy so far.
