I'm referring to this year. Hyundai, Mitsu and Subaru have pulled their backings from factory teams for the US. This year, there will be no factory teams and you have to pay to see it. No thanks. Rallying is dead in America. Oh well, I'll have to stick to watching the WRC on Speed.

Rallying doesn't need factory support to be worthwhile.

Just cause the privateers don't get any the media attention doesn't mean they aren't still driving like real rally drivers.

With an attitude like that you deserve to lose speed channel entirely to Nascar too.

Rallying in America is what you make it - platypus and hoche are putting their cars, and for that matter -thier lives on the line next month, because they know the future of rallying in america depends on people doing it in the present.

Despite there not being matched pairs of cars with factory logo'd service trucks, there is a waiting list above a full entry grid already entered, and some of the same names that have been winning Pro Rallies with factory support are going to be running as privateers.

When WRC does come back to the USA, you can bet most of the people involved in organizing Rim are going to be part of it, this year without a big factory backed bias to the field we should see some of the best competition ever, it's going to be a great event,

you don't have to come down if you don't want to, but if you do you'll know that rallying is far from being "dead" in America.

I look forward just to seeing the cars driven in anger, privateers, factory cars, Pro-....whatever. Usually, I think the "grass-roots" stuff is more exciting to watch anyway (easier for a nobody like me to relate to!).

See you guys there,
Jim

If you really can't handle having to pay for the shuttle rides and fairgrounds access, there are still a few volunteer positions open for spectator marshals and a few other posts, go to the web site and click on the volunteer link for more information.

Funny that even though we put in a ton of $$'s last year only to have our booth (shared with Gruppe-S) damn near fly into the cars entering the car show (always nice watching someone scrub there wheels with a tooth brush while watching 5-6 folks struggle for there life to stop a wind driven tent from taking off and turning their would be show car into a scratched Yugo) we all still had a blast, I mean without the rain and misery how would we have gotten to test the heat capacity of the then new Helix uppipes in such a manor as this

As for holding the booth down here is how that looked..

I for one had a blast last year despite the rain and the unfortunate zeal of the CHP tow teams on Saturday.

Factory backed teams or not the racing will still be first class and an event like RIM is always well put together by the organizers with this year looking to be a decent event for the vendors displaying there as well.

We will be there but only to cheer on Neil (perhaps push when needed too)

Mike
