Check Engine light on

This is what happened:

Yesterday night when i was on my way home i had a small misfire or something of that sort. Felt a jerk on the freeway and then Check engine light was on and cruise light blinking. this was happening till today morning then when i stopped to drop my daughter to her daycare the lights are gone now.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong or should i take the car to subaru shop.

Thanks in advance.

go to kragen or autozone and borrow their scanner. you might want to call first, not all of them have one for use/rent.

how many miles you have on your car? what plugs do you have? I learned the hard way, I picked up some Champions for my Protege and RS, both got misfire after ~25,000 miles.

Any modifications that might have caused it? You don't need to take it to a Suby shop, but definately get the code pulled. Do NOT reset the ECU because the code is still logged in the ECU.

People say you can go to Autozone and rent out an OBD-II reader. Or if anyone on i-club has one, you can borrow it from them.

I think autozone will charge you $25, but I seem to recall that aamco will pull the code for free. Give a call ahead first.

The (Cobb) AccessPort cable can also be used with a laptop to pull the code.

Drop me a PM if you want.

EDIT: BTW, the code may just say something like "misfire on cyl #N", but no code for the cause. misfire is likely to cause a code to be thrown; some codes will trigger the "check engine" light, others wont. may be additional codes in there, so never hurts, but don't necessarily expect it to state the exact cause or to be definitive.
