Changing oil with rear differential guard

Anyone have any good tricks when you have changed the oil in your rear diff. with the factory guard in place? I need to do mine and it seems like it will make a huge mess when I go to drain the oil. There are a few holes in the guard but it seems oil will still run all over the guard. Thanks in advance for any help!

The guard does come off but its a major pain. I would proly just prefer the mess of the oil than deal with pulling the guard off.

I had the same problem with mine as well. it makes a HUGE mess, you'll have to get a oil pan or something that is bigger than the rectangular diff protector and then do it. i ended up leaving mine off after getting a cobb exhaust because the exhaust wont fit with the rear diff protector there, unless you go with an aftermarket rear diff protector. another thing you could do is to loosen the bolts that are closest to the front of the car, and then loosen the bolts towards the rear of the car by a little bit. the rear diff protector should start slanting downwards if i remember correctly and you'll have a much easier time catching the oil drainage.

another thing i'd imagine you could do is to once you get the fill plug and drain plug off the car(provided that you are parked on a leveled service with wheels blocks and such. you could jack up the front of the car so the the oil drainage will come from the rear corners of the rear diff protector and that's another way to make it less messy.

but draining the rear diff fluid with the protector on is going to be messy in my opinion.

Thx for the reply steeze, looks like Im going the messy route. Though I will try jacking up the front end to help the oil drain. out those corner holes
