what size bolt do I need and where can I get it? A friend has the 2.2 resistor which is easy enough to install, but that bolt will take a bit of work I think, wont it?

I have filled up my gas tank several times and I always crank the gas cap on tight.

the bolt size you need is m12 x 1.25. You might have some trouble finding that bolt size because not alot of stores carry that size. Mcgyvers hardware in fremont had some last time i was there and also Monument Auto in san ramon has them. If you remove your downpipe you can get to that area by reaching up from under the car. Be careful when removing the sensor, sometimes that bolt gets stripped if you dont have the wrench on all the way.
