Its all about the TE27 Mango baby! I never knew about them until the early 90's when I used to go the street races in Fairfield/Vacaville area. There was this black dude named Lloyed that used to drive this primered black Mango. This fool used to smoke every fricken car out there. I used to think "Man that car is old, looks like a bucket!" But man, after seeing him put cars to shame, I never looked at that car the same. It was a fully built 2TG NA motor with practically every part being TRD (cams, headers etc.). Ever since then, I've had a passion for that car.

You got that right, Judd. Heck, I learned when I was 12 back home !
Thinking about it now that I'm older and wiser, it's amazing how a third-world country like the PI still had people that loved and valued their cars, no matter how old the cars were.

I think I see that guy during AUto-X events before. When I was studying in the bay area around 94-95, he was running SCCA Auto-X with that primered Mango. He had a fully built up 2TG.

My last Toyota was a AE92 with a 4AG. Did not know fuel injection then so I chucked it and put twin Weber 45s on it.

I started driving in 1983 (12 years old). Back then, it was pretty common for teens to be driving early.
Does math work differently in the philipines? Isn't 1983 actually 23 years ago? You've been driving longer than half this board's been alive.

The SR-5 came with a 4AGE. There were at least 5 totally awesome mangos, a few Celicas and a couple AE86s at my school. Probably at least 10 lifted Toyota trucks too.. I graduated '95 on the big island. Most of the Filipino guys I knew drove crazy mini trucks like hot pink or lime green with gobs of knives all over the place. We would always see the Toys at the drags though, and lots of Bugs too - they would either win or blow a motor. A friend had a 13 sec Mango and I saw it on a thread PeanutWRX linked me to a while back. Forget what it said on the trunk but it was a candy red '73 Rolla and it's easy to spot since it has 5 lug rims (hilux rear, re drilled front). I just sold my last Toy back in Hilo last Sept. I miss it, put gobs of time and life into it. It spent a good amount of time on T-Hill, Sears and Laguna tho. Great cars, Toys will always have a place with me.

Yup, my ae92 was a sedan as well. It started life with the 4AF carb engine. Put in a 4AGE from the JDM spec Corolla GT. Scrapped the EFI and put "twin side" 45 DCOE webers.

Oh and I had a KE70 sedan as well made to look like the "japanese version" GT -DOHC
It had a 3T block and 2TG head also with Webers.

Even before the JDM craze picked up, the Filipino guys were already into it and called them "japanese version"

Oh My!!! I'm old!!!!

Yup, 1983. First car was a 1980 Toyota Corona which we bought dirt cheap so that I could practice on. It was prety much a POS by the time I got it. But at 13, I did not really care how bad it was. The important thing was it was mine and I could drive.
