You should have done a search here in I-club for "stevens creek Subaru" before you went there....you will find like 500 threads that say how horrible they are.

I just bought my legacy gt from carlsen. Best car buying experience I've ever had. Real people you can talk to without feeling like a hapless tuna in a sea of hungry sharks.

there's a "**** on stevens creek" thread that you can easily find...it used to be a sticky. hahaha.

anyhow, i bought my car from stevens creek but they didn't give me any slack. it took a little bit of time, but i did pretty well in terms of pricing.

as for servicing, i've dealt with carlsen before and have nothing but praise for howard and kevin. there was some negative feedback that an i-clubber wrote about...you can do a search for that. overall, carlsen will get my business again.

there is always santa cruz subaru that everyone raves about...

carlsen can be hit or miss depending upon the issue. from what I've heard sales can be a 50/50 chance. service is an 80/20 chance... the 20% mostly doing with warranty issues. santa cruz subaru though, I've never heard anything bad.

of course, this is all from what I've seen on here.

Wow..... Ho-my-gawd I need to finish my story on my service nightmare at Carlsen. I have had nothing but crap, lies, difficulty and BS at Carlsen. They went to great lengths (including falsifying data on my oil consumption report and lying about my car's issues on record) to NOT service my car. I have also heard a few tales from other people with curious dealings with the service dept, but those are rumours w/ no factual data. I am honestly VERY surprised to see those reviews. I will spend some time gathering data and make a full report ASAP. Without facts, dates, names - this is just another rumour.

I should note that my car is fine, and I do not want anything from them. I was just really dissappointed with my repeated bad experiences there, after all of the good things I have heard. I am only trying to make sure my car is OK (a big purchase for me) and that I am following the warranty guidelines. I also understand that this is standard practice for car dealers, it's just that I have heard so many great things about them... My car has been serviced with them since the first oil change BTW including the 15K $ervice.

I should also note that I have recommended the sales dept on many occasions, and still send people there when they ask about buying a Suby. Since I hear everyone having great experiences there, I can only hope mine is a fluke. It's just uncanny how many times I have been lied to, and the time the whole service dept couldn't tell me when my '95 Impreza's timing belt should be changed really cracked me up (official answer from 2 techs: "we don't know exactly on those older cars, but it should probably be done around every 90-100k"). I had to write that down.

I have heard lots of people praise them and the service dept, and that's great. I really wish I was one of those people, and really - I gave them the benefit of the doubt repeatedly. And yeah, Howard is a nice guy - he tries really hard and always remembers me (maybe that's a bad thing).

But yeah, I hear if you have money and want to buy a car, they are pretty cool.

I bought my WRX from Carlsen too...so I'm not talking s***...but how does racing an STi proove that you won't BS somebody? I didn't buy mine from Larry though, so I can't really say anything good or bad about him...I'm sure he's a fine salesperson.

the tried to screw me slightly.... they tried to make me pay more for a simple fix. When you get in there, know what you should pay, know what the problem is... and everything will be fine.
If it's for car buying, you'll get a better price at stevens creek if you insist on it.

I'll chime in here. Carlsen is good chit. They stuck thier neck out, bought back my '04 (which was found to have been wrecked) and sold me an '05 $100 over invoice. I get praises about my car when I go in. They won't just sell you the car and send you on your way. They actually seem to care that the cars they sell are being driven. They get a kick out of how much I love my car, and what I am doing to it. No hassel sales, take it or leave it approach. Was great for me.
