My parents and sisters are on the way to LA today and my mom gave me a call while they were heading down there. She told me she just saw some kid in some sort of Honda (I'd guess a Civic) with three friends in the car. They were going down the freeway, going pretty quick, cutting through traffic. The Honda comes up on a car in the fast lane. The car in the fast lane goes to move over and the kid in the Honda tries to move over at the same time, in to the same spot. The kid in the Honda jerks the wheel to get back in to the fast lane and continue on.

He loses control of the car, hits the gaurdrail and he's trying to correct the car. He gets the car off the rail but it's still out of control, he slides one way, back the other and finally hits the rail again REAL hard, causing him to spin across all four lanes. Unfortunately, this was in a construction area on the freeway and he went right in to a bulldozer parked off the side of the road. My mom said the car ripped in half and the kids inside went flying every which way. They stopped along with a few others and could see the kids on the ground, very dead.

So be careful. I know we all drive sorta fast sometimes and maybe get a little crazy. Something like this could occurr at any time without warning and there'd be no going back.

I feel bad for those poor kids..well more so for the passengers than the driver, but I feel bad for their parents too. Luckily that idiot didn't hit my parents car.

 

Wow. RIP, stupid darwin award winners. That guy drives like that black EVO that runs around here.

That sucks for those kids, but the driver took his own and other lifes in his hands thinking he is cool or whatever.
They should have thought twice about doing what they did, cause now they are dead.

I know I am mean, but they got what was coming to them for their actions.
Now for the familys I feel bad, because they are the ones left behind. =(

 

Something like this happened to me before. I was on the way home from Santa Cruz, friend driving. Friend is moving over to the far left lane when suddenly some red mustang speeds up and doesn't let her in. She starts moving the wheel to the right to avoid the car and get back in her lane so she wouldn't get hit. As soon as we're halfway into the lane, some car starts changing lanes and is halfway in. She tried to move the wheel left a bit to avoid the other car. All of a sudden, the car starts to fishtail. She's braking, we're scared as hell, we spin out, and hit the center divide. Airbag deploys and car bounces over to the middle of four lanes. Luckily, no one hit us, nor did we get hurt. Scary **** does happen, even to the innocent people. However, one thing I learned and everyone should remember is: not to be an ******* on the road. Let people in your lanes and don't block the flow of traffic. Stop being so agressive on the road, and leave that sh*t at the track.

Good question, just imagining it seems like to try and spin all the way around and hopefully correct yourself as you're going straight again... but then again not everyone has taken crash course lessons including myself =\

 

You get out of a fish tail by reacting slowly. Change steering slowly and into the the direction the tail is moving. You left off the gas or brake slowly. Fast movements only serve to shift the weight of the car and cause more lost traction. If you're one of those people that go looney in a crisis, please consider not driving on the freeway, ever.

Do everything slowly when you drive. I don't mean driving slow, I mean manuever the controls slowly. Smooth control of the car actually results in better gas milage, longer tire life and faster lap times

I I coulda been this guys guardian angel I would have said: "Make sure you have a way out of the lane change before you commit to it, look again and always turn the wheel slowly".
