Unhappy Car won't start

'02 WRX wagon wouldn't start after I replaced my HID bulbs. The tech at SpeedElement was real helpful and helped test what was wrong. Turned out my battery was almost dead, so he jump started me and I was on my merry way.
I installed the new battery, and I'm STILL having the same issues!

Lights, gauges, and stereo all work perfectly. Once I turn the ignition, it begins clicking repeatedly, and the gauge cluster slowly dies until put in the off position.

I'm thinking I need a new starter, but it was working perfectly until swapped out my old HID bulbs for new ones. I have no idea what went wrong. Experts please chime in, TIY.

That ticking isn't your starter, it a low voltage scenario. That ticking is the solenoid moving but the car not having enough juice to turn the motor. I'm with Unit 91... cause is probably the alternator, get your battery charged, have the alternator tested and replaced if necessary.

this. how long after replacing the new battery did you start encountering the same issue? is it a brand new battery or a used battery? make sure your connections are tight as well.

Are you down in socal or the bay area? I have a tester that'll test battery voltage and alternator "health"

If you have a multimeter you can see if your alternator is working. If not find someone that does. Good luck!

On my Toyota truck when the charging system is dying or deader than disco, 3 idiot lights on the dash lights up...

Do subarus have something similar?

When the OEM batt on my 04 STi (bought in June 03) finally gave out 3 years ago, it died fast. Jump starts would get me home but it still wouldn't a charge. Alternator was ok (always +13 volts).

Bought the second best batt from autozone. Still good today...

Thanks to everyone for the advice and VRT_MBasile for offering your help.

Turns out I didn't tighten the clamps down tight enough, and these battery washers weren't giving enough surface area. Name: JYmM8.jpg
