Question which car should i drive to tahoe?

base on the weather condition, its going to snow on the next 2 days at tahoe.

im going there tomorrow, thinking which car i should drive.

honda accord with chains with 80% thread on all season tires

or wrx with around 40% of thread on the stock RE92...

im thinking that chains will be much safer in snow than my stock tires even though its AWD. anyone has been there recently and tips.

TIA

the wrx. Stopping to put on chains sucks

the stock RE092s actually do well in the snow from what ive heard

isn't 40% still a pretty good amount of tread?

I'd take the accord if it's an old model. You'd probably be less angry if it got messed up. I haven't had to take my car to the snow since I go with friends who all have trucks.

I'm heading up wed night myself.

Those look like RE92's as well, judging by the tread.

A better measuring device would be a tread depth guage, like $3 or so at Kragen, AutoZone, etc. I keep one in my console.

Ive driven my evo and my gfs 06 accord

You get up faster without having to stop to chain up and you can go a bit faster than the chain gang

The tires look fine to me, if you are really unsure than just take the accord.

as long as you aren't to wear bars the RE 92s should be OK, just don't be stupid, slow down and know where the limits are and you will be fine.

Oh, I thought it was the Accord; some of them came with RE92's. :\

Anyhow, there should be 2 sets of treadwear indicators on that particular tire, IIRC. The first set should be by the shoulders, and if the tread is worn flat with that indicator, they won't be much good in the snow (or rain, for that matter).

I replaced the RE92's on my '04 WRX at about the first wear bar, because they were squirrely in the rain on the freeway (at about 22K miles).

i just got back yesterday from a 5 day trip with my wrx and stockers, wasn't any snow over the past few days but i hear a system is moving in on thurs. as long as your 92's are not down to the bars i'm sure u'll be fine on the main roads. on side roads and parking lots with ice you'll wanna drive really slow. even with the best tires in the world you won't beable to drive any/much faster on ice.
