Don't tell her yet!!!!

But in regards to the car... THAT SUCKS! How'd they take it with the immobilizer? Tow it out of there? You sure it was stolen and not towed somewhere? Regardless of the matter, THAT SUCKS and I feel really bad about it... Especially the fact that it was in front of your house. Way too close to home... I hope things turn out well mang

Remember, DON'T TELL HER YET!!!!

Dude... he has to report it to the police. They won't do anything without the OWNER being a part of the report. She'll have to call in. Hell the police will call her to confirm ownership.

AS much as that SUCKS, at least it didn't get stolen and stripped down for parts. Tow companies are pretty good at recognizing Subies nowadays (apparently there have been a lot of lawsuits about the AWD towing on 2 wheels). When I had to call a tow truck a few weeks ago, the first guy that showed up straight up told me that he couldn't even touch my car because it was AWD, that was without me even saying anything at all to him, it was the first thing to come out of his mouth. I called a second tow company, and when I was asked what sort of car it was, they automatically said "oh, your car requires a flat bed, or a dolly since it's AWD", and that was by just providing the model when they asked "Subaru Impreza WRX STi".

Get that thing out of there as soon as possible, the longer it sits the more you will have to pay. Perhaps you can get the city to pay for it since it was totally wrong of them to tow it... Don't they need to give a certain amount of time to warn people?

SF is great in terms of culture and shopping, as well as random things to do... However, it is BY FAR the worst place to drive in the entire United States Of America... I can't think of a single worse place than SF to drive.

I should start a towing company in SF, I'd become a millionaire in just a couple of months! Who wants to be my partner?

Jeremy, I feel really bad that this happened to your old baby, is there any way you can avoid telling the new owner until she gets back or does she have to verify stuff? I guess it wont be too bad telling her since it wasn't stolen and you can get it back as soon as you pay the fees... So you might as well tell her.

Sort of OT, but where is she vacationing and for how long? (sorry if it was mentioned, I might have skimmed through the thread)

This. I hate driving in SF. I'm sure there are worse cities out there though. All my SF friends just tell me I'm not aggressive enough of a driver to drive in sf

LAME! the city did this to me once but we caught it as Bryan was leaving for work. They said they gave us 24 hr notice but then the guy who put up the sign said he just put it up an hour ago. So when they showed up that day they towed everyone and my car was last to tow. They heard a bit out of me that day that's for sure.

Last time I dealt with the tow companies the owner has to show up to get it out. Even in our accident they wouldn't let me take anything from the car unless Bryan was with me cus the car was in his name even though insurance is in both our names and we are married.
