so who all showed up today? I met mbquarts, SF miami WRX, and land bruiser, two kids in an STi that never gave handles but said to be from i-club, and about 5 other WRXs, and 2 other STi's.
Today was so freakin awesome! Best $70 I have ever spent! The BMW-GGC is having another one of these in August I believe, I will see you all there!

Here is the psuedo summary I wrote up on my blog that I thought I would trow up over here since its about the clinic.
Saturday I went to the BMW Golden Gate Chapter's Car Control Clinic, and if I had to to sum up the day... WOW!
I would have to say that was the best $70 I have ever spent in my life!
There were 3 exercises practiced through out the day.
The day started out with a couple of the instructors talking about bad driving habits, such as putting one hand at the 12 o'clock position. ;P
Imagine driving down the street with your hand of choice at the 12 position, you swerve to avoid hitting a <insert object/person here> and hit a light/power pole head on, air bag goes off and your arm flys up hitting you smack on the face knocking you unconscious.
You would feel pretty stupid wouldn't you?
This was one of the examples given as why you should put your hands at 9 and 3 o'clock position.
Anyway, they also spoke about looking ahead (this was heavily emphasized through out the day) especially when going in to a corner (slalom and skid pad exercises), throttle steering, weight transfer when turning/accelerating / decelerating, early vs late apex, steering technique(hands planted at 9&3 no shuffle steering), tire contact patch vs. grip, limits of adhesion, under/over steer, spin recovery (no matter how hard I tried I could not
do this on the skid pad), secondary skid, ABS, emergency lane change and accident avoidance, keeping neutral throttle while avoiding accidents.
We covered all of these in great detail, some more then others, then applied what we learned about these topics with our own vehicles.
The very first runs on slalom and skid pad exercises the instructors drove our cars through the course first so we could get an idea of what we would be doing.
There was so much information covered through out the day, the advice that was applied the most through out the day I think was keeping your eyes up, looking further ahead, and looking where you want the car to go. This works because we have excellent left/right/down peripheral vision, but not the greatest high or up peripheral vision.
This was probably the most difficult for me to do since I don't trust what I can't focus on, so I practiced real hard focusing further ahead and sub-focusing what is in my peripheral vision.
The next car control clinic I think is in August, but that is only what one of the instructors told me, and the August calendar isn't on the site yet.
