I can map the card reader as a drive. But cannot add the printer at all (not wifi, usb okay)...
when I do \\[printer ip], I only see the card reader and not printer. I am sure my computer works fine for network printing because I do that at work without problems.

Yeah, I've done that about a billion times...
So once again, Google is my best friend.
What do you know, use local instead or network, silly Microsoft...
It's working!

1. Determine the IP address of the printer - usually you can print a
configuration page and find it there.
2. Start the Add Printer wizard. Do not select Network Printer - select
Local Printer and clear any check boxes for auto detection.
3. Select Create new port - select Standard TCP/IP port and configure it
with the IP address of the HP.

Ah, got to this thread too late.
Basically, to print over a network, the printer must be installed through the network (aka add printer, network printer, etc). You can't just install the driver on the computer and be able to print over the network.
Glad the issue was resolved

Yeah, tried that too many times already....
The installation SW even comes with the installation package where it allows you to select USB or network. Needless to say, that didn't work either...
I've installed network printer before, this is the first time I came across a problem like this... oh well, it's fixed!
