Can someone recommend a dirt road?

I searched a bit, but I might be doing it wrong. It's been a long time since I have been deep in the back roads so I am not sure what's what these days. I don't want to do anything stupid, just put my '91 Justy in 4WD and use the 4WD system a little before changing all the fluids. I am talking just driving down a dirt road in 4WD, and this is a Justy so obviously I wouldn't be doing anything crazy.

If there is something I can hit off HWY 1, 92, 35, 9, 84 or anything around there that would be rad. Otherwise if I can take a day off, I can just cruise up north a ways but just not a lot of time, and not a huge desire to road trip in a Justy if you know what I mean.

Anyway, if anyone knows something they wouldn't mind sharing - please PM me.

I have a secret dirt spot (okay, not much of a secret) on California State Route 35 (Skyline Blvd) around the county border of Santa Clara County and San Mateo County.

Aaaaaaaaaand that's all I'll tell you. :P

(Other dirt roads are all closed off, I second the notion of going to Hollister Hills!)

Just bought a new 4Runner and been wondering the same thing, all I heard about was Hollister but the wife is afraid to take it there just yet.

A small dirt road would be a good way to ease her into 4wheeling.

HH is a great place for beginners.

it's like a ski resort with trails rated as green, blue and black.

trust me, you can do the least or go wild in that place. at the end of the day you can even go to the place to wash off the dirt, take a shower and have dominos deliver...

lol...

lemme know. i just got my 90 4runner back running again after a yearlong "sabbatical"...

and i have taken a few members here with their subies on the milder trails...

The one I have shoes paved or unpaved roads. Perhaps the one I linked is not the one I have. I have not looked at it in a long time.

Oh nice, yeah I've heard they've got some easy trails. Friends with lifted bro trucks scared the wife I think with crazy crawling pictures at HH.

I'd be down for a group trip down there, I'm on T4R and theres already been two trips I've missed out on. No plans this weekend, so maybe I'll get her out there.

Again, not looking for anyone to give up their secret road spots.

If I had the time, I would stick the Justy on a trailer and tow it up to Oregon near Mt. Hood where I learned to drive in the back roads, in a 4WD (dual range) '82 Subaru hatchback, starting at age 10 with pillows to reach the pedals. Last time I was there I was in my '03 WRX sedan and it was fun, especially to have so much power in the dirt, but I think the Justy would freaking rock.

So many dirt roads up there that I think you could probably take a week off, and head up into the hills every day and still drive on new roads each time. Ironically, the road I lived near as a kid was called Skyline. Near The Dalles, Oregon. Stay in Hood River, hit up Full Sail Brewing Co and some nice river spots. Hmm. Sounds like a Summer Suby road trip, and I even have a car with a towing setup.

There are some nice and fun roads out there. I used to go out years ago with my Imprezas, Pathfinder, rented GMC Jimmys and Ford Rangers, and a friend's Jeep. Plenty of chill roads as well as stuff you could submerge a 4Runner in if you wanted.
