Can I see your KYB's? (02-03 WRX)

Can anyone with an 02-03 WRX with KYB AGX help me out?

I have been running these KYB's for around 5 months wondering why one side seemed to be higher. After inspecting I've found that I have , on the rear, two different versions of this AGX shock! The part numbers match up but one is almost a 1/2 inch higher than the other. I know I have an old version and a new version of this shock, I'm not sure which is which. Before Soren orders me the one I need I need to make sure that I'm ordering the correct replacement. We could meet, I'm right by Big Dog's. Or can anybody with this set-up go and just look at the spring perches ,just looking in the space between body and tire I can see that one spring seat is flush and the other side has a "C" type of curve making more of the rubber bushing visible.

Anyone? Please.
TIA , Joe

hmmmm, sounds like one of your springs is not seated properly.....that could cause your car to sit lopsided. Have you tried jacking the car off the ground and trying to seat the spring better, so its doesnt have a "C" shape(note that a VERY SLIGHT "C" shape is ok, but if its as much as you describe, I'd say thats probably it) .

just wondering, how do you know that one strut is taller than the other? did you measure them while they were both fully extended? They should both be the same.

Joe, the pictures have been sent to your email...i just took them 15 minutes ago. long day at work. lemme know if you need me to take more detailed pictures.

Ted might be right...your springs will need to be re-compressed if they're not seated properly.

i've had the KYB's for ~7 months now.

Sorry, if my description is vague.

Ted, That's how I found that I had two differect shocks. I was expecting this uneven ride height to be just that-spring not seated properly. But when I was under there checking the rubber , I realized that the shock were of two different designs.

The "C" actually shoud've been described as a "U" There is no way to remove this- it is the shape of the metal only on one perch. I know the early, AGX were redesigned and raised the car from what I've read. Also when viewing the shocks from undernieth one shock has the piston centered throught the spring and the other has the piston offset ( more inboard). Although, the part numbers match. Really it's obvious, I took it to MPJ and Soren agreed. "That's crazy"

Thanks for all the advise guys.

I'll post a pic when I figure out how to post a pic.

cool, well, I hope it all works out for you and when you order the correct strut you actually get the correct one this time.

let us know how it turns out.....I have a set of AGXs that are waiting to be installed at home, so I would like to know which one is the "new" version, so I can compare mine BEFORE the install. LOL Also, if you get a chance, could you post up some pics of the two different struts side by side?

FYI: to post pics, just scroll down below the "reply to thread" box, and look for the "manage attachments" button, click it, and you can browse for you pics to upload...but dont forget to resize them smaller before you upload, so they are easier for us to see on the Web.

Thanks,

-Ted

Doughboy,

Thanks again. My L/R looks like your pic. My R/R does not. Thanks for your time.
The difference being the shape of the spring perch.

Ted,
Yes, I'll definitely follow up with some side by side pics. Thanks for the pic post description, I should be able to manage that.

Does your right rear look like this picture? The other picture is of the left rear.
