Read this on Gizmodo earlier this year, even if this camera fails the technology will expand and change a lot I think.

I keep hearing about this. It reminds of me of all the buzz about a mystery product, code named "ginger", that all the Silicon Valley venture capitalists and Steve Jobs were talking up and pumping money into. It's going to revolutionize the blah blah blah. But Segways have been around for a long time now and have not really changed the world. Just seems like a gimmick with a tremendous amount of technology behind it. Of course when I was first exposed to the internet, the only thing that piqued my interest was the ability to get weather forecasts.

So what's so interesting about being able to refocus your shot after the fact? Maybe when there are ready ways to project holograms all the extra expense and extra memory this uses will be useful. But until then what?

Don't put off buying a real camera for this. It is the equivalent of a silver halide plate compared to what the technology will be in a few years. Its cool, but it isn't at the level to replace a standard P&S. Wait til Sony gets the technology and puts a Zeiss lens on it, or Nikon with a Nikkor lens.

On the business side though, I could see this replacing photo booths at events as the new gimmick.

I think P&S cameras are becoming less and less useful now that cell phone cameras are getting better and better.

True, but they aren't totally obsolete. There are still tons of people without smartphones.

However, I hate being at an event for any of my jobs and being asked to take a picture with 10 different digital cameras. I'm like "WTF! They're all digital! I'll take one and then just email it to everyone else you twit!"
