Call me Paranoid? What do u guys think?
If u got a few minutes to read this.. let me know what you guys think... Am i too paranoid or is this a potentially sour deal?
My used volks are on craigslist and marketplace..
Buyer contacted me for trade for oem wheels + $150 cash on my end
i refused
buyer: would u accept paypal for payment as i am short on cash
me: paypal is no problem only if you can follow my terms of transaction.
1. account must be under your name (picture id to prove)
2. payment sent under gift or you must cover 3% paypal fees
3. signed bill of sale stating wheels are sold as is (after inspection)
buyer: i can agree except for the #3... i will not sign away my only cause that protects me.
me: protection?... as any cash transaction, they are sold as is no refunds... you are more than welcome to inspect the wheels fully before payment transaction.
buyer: but on the side note, its my dads account that we both use.
me: if your using your dads account, i would need both info .... just so i know the account is not stolen or hacked.
me: stolen / hacked account leads to disputed transaction, that way i have record to prove transaction is indeed legit
buyer: serious?, we both have access the past 4-5 years, i made sales and purchases, if it was stolen or hacked we would know.
me: yes because of course you can say you are allowed access but if you dad calls paypal and claims transaction was unauthorized, paypal will file a dispute which leaves me nothing but headaches.
buyer: well im over 18, im not asking my dad for nothing,,, haha
me: ok.. all this is to cover my end of the transaction, unless your name is on the account when u send payment, im not taking the risk of dealing with a potentially stolen account..
buyer: i though you were a reasonable person.
me: i am reasonable but if you want to pay with paypal, i am asking these terms to be followed...
...................... there it goes on back and forth, me explaing why my terms are the way they are, his defense is he feels like im scamming him by taking his rights to return......
bottom line... my terms..
1. if you want to pay with paypal... you must prove you are authorized to use the account.... the deal is sold as is no returns
2. you are more than welcome to inspect the wheels completely, remove tires and balance them if you feel like scamming with a structurelly compromised rim.
3. i insured him he has no commitment to the wheels untill he inspects them fully, i allowed him to take what ever precaution to have them checked out
4. My reason for no returns: wheels are sold as is (inspection welcome) for all i know you can install them and run over a giant pot hole then dispute for a refund claming the damage was pre-transaction...
his response:
1. he will not prove nor asked his father for permission to use his paypal account
2.his defense... he feels like i am scamming him by making him sign away his rights for a refund
3. he keeps saying; he thought i was reasonable and still cannot see my perspective of how this is sketchy..

Heres the whole convo for those who may be interested... i removed his number so i dont point fingers... i just like to share my highlight of the day
,5/28/2013 10:32:19 AM,Hello, I believe you bought tires from me before but I don't remember what exactly, interested int volks, still have them?
ME,5/28/2013 10:32:46 AM,Yea
,5/28/2013 10:33:26 AM,Pics? And these are genuine? Not knock off?
ME,5/28/2013 10:34:00 AM,The gtu are authentics...
ME,5/28/2013 10:34:20 AM,
ME,5/28/2013 10:34:33 AM,
ME,5/28/2013 10:34:47 AM,
,5/28/2013 10:35:26 AM,No center caps?
ME,5/28/2013 10:35:47 AM,No caps
,5/28/2013 10:36:00 AM,And tires still on or off?
ME,5/28/2013 10:36:31 AM,Bald tires on..
ME,5/28/2013 10:37:51 AM,
ME,5/28/2013 10:37:58 AM,
ME,5/28/2013 10:38:03 AM,Curb damage on 1 of the rim
,5/28/2013 10:39:31 AM,Yeah I saw that, and they are discontinued
ME,5/28/2013 10:39:52 AM,Yea I think so
,5/28/2013 10:46:40 AM,Very interest, what was your name?
,5/28/2013 10:50:56 AM,Since I see your prices are reasonable and we have done business before, so hopefully we can trust each other. Will to work something out? I might be in the city later in the day
ME,5/28/2013 11:08:58 AM,I'm free today as well.. However the price is what it is and I am firm with that..
,5/28/2013 11:09:21 AM,Oh I know
,5/28/2013 11:11:46 AM,This is what I was thinking. I have a set of 2012 Wrx rims, flawless, with almost brand new dunlops, two had bad camber wear but I went and got another 2 with 9mm of tread left. Seriously these tires are brand new
,5/28/2013 11:12:02 AM,Easily sell these for 900-1000
,5/28/2013 11:12:16 AM,Trade, maybe throw me an extra 150?
,5/28/2013 11:13:29 AM,You can ride on these for a year till you find what you want then still sell them for 900
ME,5/28/2013 11:13:37 AM,To be honest already have a set of 11+ wrx wheels hanging around
,5/28/2013 11:14:24 AM,So is that a no?
ME,5/28/2013 11:15:33 AM,Yea.. I honestly have no use for another set of oem wheels
,5/28/2013 11:16:02 AM,Ok, we'll my other ideal
,5/28/2013 11:16:32 AM,All my money right now is in PayPal, I can pay you instantly, today when we meet but only through PayPal. Interested?
,5/28/2013 11:17:57 AM,Sorry, just recently bought a lot if stuff
ME,5/28/2013 11:22:10 AM,I can take Paypal.. But I do have a few requirement that needs to be followed...
1. The account must be under your name (picture id to prove)
2. Payment of $700 under gift or you must cover the extra 3% Paypal fee
3. Agree to sign bill of sale with your id for record...
This is all for my record that your account is not stolen or that you will not dispute for a refund..
ME,5/28/2013 11:22:40 AM,If you agree those terms.. Then Paypal is no problem..
,5/28/2013 11:22:56 AM,I can agree to all but the last one
,5/28/2013 11:22:56 AM,I mean I can't sign away the one clause that protects me while you are fully covered
,5/28/2013 11:25:04 AM,I mean if I inspect and it's exactly what you saw
,5/28/2013 11:25:04 AM,Say, and no hidden damage then I probably could agree to all
ME,5/28/2013 11:26:06 AM,Well.. As any 3rd party transaction.. The sale is final.. So I don't understand what protection you are talking of... You will be able to inspect the wheels before you send payment so.. It's not like ill take the money and run... After you inspect the wheels and are satisfy with them.. Then we will do the Paypal transfer at the spot..
,5/28/2013 11:25:04 AM,But side note, it's my dad's account that we both use
,5/28/2013 11:27:12 AM,Well I can tell you are a reasonable person
ME,5/28/2013 11:27:19 AM,If you are to use your dads account.. I would need both id info... Just so I know the account is not hacked or stolen
ME,5/28/2013 11:28:05 AM,Stolen / hacked account leads to disputed transaction.. That way I have record to prove that the transaction is indeed legit..
,5/28/2013 11:27:12 AM,Seriously?
,5/28/2013 11:29:12 AM,We both have access for the past 4-5 years, I've made sales and purchases, so has he.
,5/28/2013 11:29:20 AM,If it was stole or hack, which it has been, we both would know and
ME,5/28/2013 11:30:09 AM,Yes because of course you can say u are allowed to use the account but if your dad calls Paypal and claims the transaction was un authorized.. Paypal will have file a dispute... Especially if you are not an authorized user it causes more headaches for me
,5/28/2013 11:29:20 AM,Well I'm over 18. I'm not asking my dad for nothing
,5/28/2013 11:29:20 AM,Haha
ME,5/28/2013 11:33:32 AM,Ok.. All this is to cover my end of the transaction... Unless your name is on the account when u send payment.. I'm not taking the risk of dealing with a potentially stolen account..
,5/28/2013 11:34:09 AM,I understand, I thought you were a reasonable person
ME,5/28/2013 11:34:33 AM,Put your self in my shoes... Would you sell something worth $700 to a random person on line transaction transfer with an account that not even theirs.?
,5/28/2013 11:34:39 AM,That's why I asked, I understand people have trust issues
,5/28/2013 11:34:55 AM,That's why I asked you in that manner
,5/28/2013 11:35:15 AM,But now you are being silly
,5/28/2013 11:35:44 AM,PayPal is suppose to be trustworthy
ME,5/28/2013 11:35:46 AM,Like I said.. Cash transaction is the easiest... But if your going to be dealing with credit payments.. Then I need to ensure its indeed legit
,5/28/2013 11:35:44 AM,That's why I asked
ME,5/28/2013 11:37:10 AM,Using someone else's Paypal account is just the same as using someone's credit card... Especially if the transaction is unauthorized I'm the one who ends up losing out.. While you walk away with the wheels
ME,5/28/2013 11:37:55 AM,Either we can deal the transaction with cash.. Which is hassle free..
ME,5/28/2013 11:38:58 AM,Or you can make a Paypal account and still follow my terms... Or get a hold of your fathers picture id (authorized user) and follow my terms...
,5/28/2013 11:48:32 AM,Sorry I'm not seeing your side, cuz I'm to busy think about potentially buying damaged rims
,5/28/2013 11:50:16 AM,I mean you taught me more about PayPal than the item you are selling, which tells me you might not even know exactly what you are selling
ME,5/28/2013 11:50:26 AM,Lol.. That's fine... Like I said.. You can inspect the wheels before transaction..
ME,5/28/2013 11:51:12 AM,If your uncomfortable pricing you are authorized to use the account then that tells me that you should be making transaction..
ME,5/28/2013 11:51:25 AM,Proving *
ME,5/28/2013 11:51:37 AM,Shouldnt*
,5/28/2013 11:50:40 AM,So why would I sign away my claus, when the tires could be hiding damages? While you still can deal with PayPal if, and a big IF I complain. Which I won't cuz I'll inspect everything before I buy
,5/28/2013 11:52:48 AM,I've many sets of rims, and the only danger there is buying the rims
,5/28/2013 11:52:48 AM,And you trying to sign my "rights" away tells me a lot too
,5/28/2013 11:54:56 AM,Well sounds like you have trust issues. I can't help you with that. I figured since we have done business before that you would be somewhat reasonable. But seriously you are being ridiculous.
ME,5/28/2013 11:56:20 AM,Here's how I see it.. Cash transaction always sold as is... Paypal transaction allows returns... With the possibility you can possibly bend a rim right after u install it.. Then I lose out.. My terms are what they are.. Transaction sold as is.. No returns or refunds... But if you deal with Paypal. There are ways to get your money back.. So in the end... I have the potential of losing out on my rims and the cash..
,5/28/2013 11:57:04 AM,Wow, you do have trust issues!
ME,5/28/2013 11:57:44 AM,Call me paranoid but like I said... If you don't feel comfortable with my terms for Paypal.. Then maybe you should just deal cash or find another set of wheels... Because I'm not looking to deal with a sketchy transaction... Remember.. You were the one who asked to pay with Paypal.. I didn't not request for it.. So lets leave it at that
,5/28/2013 11:57:04 AM,I thought I was bad, I would have never thought through all that, very imaginative
,5/28/2013 11:59:12 AM,Sounds like you've done something like that, and no cash isn't always a "no returns" policy. If you we're a reasonable honest person, then you feel out the situation, wouldn't they? But if you are a con-man, then yes you never give the cash back, like what you are explaining to me what your plan of action would be if there was a complaint
ME,5/28/2013 12:00:01 PM,Just like how you would not take a check that can possibly be stolen.. If you can't see that potential risk.. Then I think you should be more cautious of fraud..
ME,5/28/2013 12:01:45 PM,Lol... These are used wheels... For all I know you can go run over a large pot hole the day I sold them to you.. Then come back and claim the wheel was bent...
ME,5/28/2013 12:03:51 PM,You can spend an hour inspecting them or have someone inspect them.. Remove the tires have the wheels balanced for all I care.... But it's sold as is.. If you feel that the structure of the wheels are compromised then you can walk away .. No problem.. It's not like I am forcing you to deal with the transaction.... If u feel like I am conning you.. Then you are more welcome to walk away.. But keep in mind...YOU WERE THE ONE WHO ASKED ABOUT PAYPAL...
,5/28/2013 12:03:53 PM,Paranoid? Yes. first it was cash is better cuz gold isn't, then it's check is better cuz cash can be copied, then it was credit is better cuz checks can be copied, then PayPal is better cuz you have third party protection and cards can be copied, what now cash is better cuz PayPal can be hacked?
,5/28/2013 12:04:58 PM,I asked cuz I thought you were a reasonable person! Not some paranoid loon that I can tell doesn't even need the money with your 08 haha
,5/28/2013 12:05:09 PM,It's cool man, I'll think about then
ME,5/28/2013 12:06:24 PM,Regardless of how reasonable I am.. In the end.. I DONT KNOW YOU.. You don't know me.. U think my wheels are f'd up.. And I think the account can be stolen.. In the end the deal seems pretty sketchy for the both of us..
,5/28/2013 12:08:26 PM,It's always sketchy, everything is sketchy, but I'm not gonna go thru life ASSUMING everyone is out to get me
,5/28/2013 12:11:01 PM,Yes I came to you for something specific, I express the truth about my situation. And other ideas. Then you come thru, with what seemed like a script about how backwards I have to bend, and give up my rights, when PayPal is really quite easy. But yeah I'm the con man. Geez.
,5/28/2013 12:11:56 PM,I just a bought a car for 2000 with PayPal, the buyer didn't give one gripe
,5/28/2013 12:14:08 PM,And yes you do know me, I sold you tires. And it's up to you to be a judge of character, correct? not immediately assume the worst case scenario. which you dud. all just cuz I wouldn't ask my daddy for permission? Really, dam, you have a warp sense of reality
,5/28/2013 12:16:03 PM,And there are good strangers out there. Not many but there are. Maybe you watch too much news. Got you scared of your own neighbor.
,5/28/2013 12:22:40 PM,Maybe you can't remember me, which is not my fault, correct? So just cuz you DON'T KNOW ME (which is somehow stopping you from seeing me as a nice person) doesn't give you the right to ASSUME the complete worst about me. Can we at least agree on that? I mean seriously some wrong with you
ME,5/28/2013 12:30:04 PM,Lol...
,5/28/2013 12:31:12 PM,Seriously I'm a nice guy, plenty of positive trader ratings on the websites I sell stuff, not one neg.
,5/28/2013 12:31:12 PM,I mean I know what you are talking about I do, lots of shady people I've meet
ME,5/28/2013 12:35:14 PM,There's not point of this convo continuing.. Bottom line is I don't know You, you don't know me... So we both take whatever precaution necessary.. Now in the end.. I have more to lose due to the fact that u can take the rims and file for a dispute for your money back claiming the deal is in authorized . In the end... Worst case I lose out on the money and my wheels... So if you still cannot see that.. Then we have nothing further to discuss with Paypal...
,5/28/2013 12:38:26 PM,Well then why do you even have PayPal If you don't trust it?
,5/28/2013 12:38:51 PM,Rhetorical
ME,5/28/2013 12:39:10 PM,U really don't understand do you... Paypal is there if you follow my terms.. If u cannot follow my terms then find another form of payment (cash)
My used volks are on craigslist and marketplace..

,5/28/2013 11:34:39 AM,That's why I asked, I understand people have trust issues
,5/28/2013 11:34:55 AM,That's why I asked you in that manner
,5/28/2013 11:35:15 AM,But now you are being silly
,5/28/2013 11:35:44 AM,PayPal is suppose to be trustworthy

TBH, its a set of wheels. not a cosworth short or longblock. What im saying: dont fret over the small stuff. but im a tax accountant and do my best to document eveyrthing. a term we like to call CYA (cover your ***). then again, wheels are sold and bought all the time. GL bro!

Been through it before. Dude sent me a payment that ended up being not funded so I did not ship. Dude may or may not have been trying to scam, but he didn't cancel the transaction and it was funded from his bank. So two weeks later he put money in his bank and the transaction went through and sent me my payment LOL. I'm not a d1ck, so I refunded it to him.
It may be legit, but if you aren't comfortable with his name not on it, just tell him you aren't interested.

That's ridiculous.
Although your terms are a bit intense, I don't think they are unreasonable.
How does this guy not have his own PayPal account? AFAIK, a PayPal account is no different than cash. If you have cash sitting in your PayPal account, transfer it to your bank and make a withdrawal.
I also can't believe the kind of value people are putting on OEM wheels. The guy wants cash on top of your Volks for his OEM ****?! That's unreasonable.

+1 to finding a new buyer.
If you're dealing locally, I'd only go with cash. PP is just asking for more headaches, plus he's already telling you he's short on cash. That alone tells me he's a significantly higher risk to try to pull something later on down the road.

lol.... yes if it was OEM 02-07 wheels however.. i do understand that 11+ wrx wheels are worth about my asking price.. so i wouldnt automatically reject an reasonable offer but he did ask for $150 on top because of his new tires... well either way.. i cant believe he is a local subaru member. (not sure if hes in iclub or not) but he is within the local subaru community....
