Help a dude out.

Is there a way to test for tetrahydrozoline?

I believe i may have been eye droppered. You know the "prank" where you put eye drops in someone's drink...

I spent evening on the floor of my bathroom. Then about 4 hours in the E.R. (I arrived with a shade over 97. body temp.)where they pushed two bags of IV fluids in to me along with triple the dosage they give normal people for anti-nausea. They told me I was good to leave and I got up and nearly crapped myself. I then went to their bathroom and crapped and immediately puked. When I returned to the ER guys they immediately pumped me with a pain killer they told me would kill the pain and knock me out so I'd forget to puke... it did.

I spent Monday delirious. And missed tuesday at work as well. I'm back today but my body temp is still in flux. I ate for pretty much the first time today. My back hurts. My organs hurt. My head still hurts. I have no voice. Etc etc etc.

I'm wondering if there is a way to test water for the chemicals in eye drops?



Basically I either got an insane case of food poisoning which I have before or I got eye dropped. No one I ate with on Sunday got sick. I did eat chicken wings that only one other guy ate. But he's fine.

Sunday morning I had breakfast and on my way out I grabbed a bottle of water out of their cooler. By the time I got around to drinking it I looked at it and there was no security seal. I remember looking at it and going... I should not drink this... and I did anyways.

 

That sucks bro. I thought they took that chemical out of eye drops for just that reason.

 

Im no expert, degree in chemistry was a long time ago, but my guess would be mass-spectroscopy could find this stuff, should be relatively easy to compare an eyedrop sample to your pee/blood or something & look for the active ingredient. Did the hospital take & keep any samples from you?
Id talk to the hospital & ask about a labtest like mass-spec, or maybe some kind of liquid chromatography to look for the tetra-stuff

 

Yeah they took a boat load of blood from me.




If they took it out them I'm just paranoid. I figured it was one of two things... I got pranked or I ate a bad chicken wing. I was a friggin mess for 3 days.

Killer diet though. I look great!

 

There is/was a super nasty flu going around that does exactly what you are describing. My wife and I both had it about 4 weeks ago along with 4 others that were with us.

We were borderline going to the hospital by day 3 of pooping and puking ourselves silly.

Could be. Timing just struck me as odd and it came out of no where. I was literally at Rock Bottom Brewery hanging out with my friends... I drove from there to my buddies house. Then headed home. I was home for about a half hour and BAM. I'm a pretty big ***** when I get sick but this was pretty violent. There was blood involved. And pooping is putting it nicely. LOL!

 

Yea ours came literally out of nowhere too. I was at a work conference down in Santa Barbara (At the Four Seasons thankfully) and my *** literally turned into a nasty foul fire hose of terror without warning.

No blood involved but it was horrific. Had a fever too.

 

most likely its just something going around. I work for CHW hospital in Folsom Ca, if you didnt suffer any symptoms that include Hyptension or Arrythmia basically an abnormally slow or rapid beating heart, or anything bothering your nervous system with things like tremors, seizures and even coma plus a major drop in body temp then its just something going around... then again everybody is different, in any way glad to hear you're all better!

 

Just curious, what would you test? Do you still have water left over from that bottle? I'm sure if you got 'eye dropped' its out of your system by now...

 

Lowest i got was 97. But i spent 3 days going from shakes to sweats. I was delirious for 24the hours so who knows. They almost shoved a hose down my nose in the er.

 

Wow that sucks man. Hopefully you find out what it is. What did you eat that day too? Food poisoning? I ate some bad Thai and was sick for like a week, but didn't have to go to ER.

 

Its prolly a stomach virus.. I had one 3 years ago that sounded just like that.

I literally could not keep ANYTHING down. I would break out sweating as i was puking and then instantly be shivering cold after.

I was down for 3 days and lost 15lbs. It was hell.

 

Yeah I jumped on the scale this morning. I'm down 15-20 pounds right now depending on which scale you believe. I looked in the mirror and went... man this shirt is saggy as ****. Then my pants fell off.

Since Sunday I've eaten half a bowl of gluten free cereal and a very very small bowl of chicken soup.

Yeah it was a such a bad cycle that I knew what was happening before it happened. It was nearly instant. I could drink a cup of water and **** it out within a few minutes. Soon as I finished ****ting I was puking until I dry heaved. Usually along with a table spoon or two of blood. I started drinking grape pedialite and gatorade to try to hydrate and everything turned green. except the blood.

After the pain I couldn't control anything... ugly.

I'm still messed up. I just drank some emergency and my stomach is PISSED. I have a deep seeded fear of farting.


The kicker... before this hit me I had an upper respiratory issue so I'm coughing like crazy and congested from that. So if I was puking from the nausea I was puking because of a coughing fit. Or I'd cough and... well you know the results if you went through this...


Lets just say my wife is an amazing amazing person.

 

Sounds like you have a GI infection. From the sounds of it could be something along the lines of: norovirus, CDIF, giardia or soemthing else; But they can check by doing a stool sample/cultures. The temperature thing is irrelevant unless you're over 100. Keep hydrated, rest and sleep will be your friends. It'll take a bit to get past this, but you can do it.

Try to eat bland things that don't have any or much acid because that'll **** off your gutl; keep away from OJ, vinegar, stuff high in vitamin C unless its buffered. Ensure might be a good way to get nutrients in a stomach friendly way.

If you start noticing a lot of blood (dark tarry or bright red) or you start getting dizzy, short of breath or start having any pains in your chest call 911.

Just saw that you were sick, were you on anti-biotics?

 

Same here. Sounds like food poisoning to me. I was down for ~5 days and lost 13lbs. Only takes a small amount of improper food preparation/handling. Could be you or could be fast food. The worst part about a bout like this is it pretty much makes your system more prone to it going forward.
