California Shop Horror Stories?

Ok, I'm going to be having a big thing done to the car (4EAT to 5MT conversion) and I'm trying to figure out which shop to use. Unfortunately around here you can't mention any shop without hearing "eh, I've heard some bad stuff about them" but no one ever expands upon that. SO! Please tell me YOUR local shop horror stories. In order from starting Flame Wars Episode#2435672 please PM me the stories. The two shops I'm debating between are LIC and MethodBuilt. LIC seems kinda pricey, and MethodBuilt has gotten the "eh, I've heard bad stuff about the FIA guys".

oh, and anyone that posts "it'd be cheaper to sell the car and buy a 5MT car will get the :fighting0028: :126: :126: :126: :126: :126: :126: :126: :fighting0028: treatment

There I was, entering this shop....the lights went out and three zombie midgets jumped out from behind the Mustang Dyno. They lunged forward trying to grab me....

thats not how it was....it was "I walked into the gruppe-s lobby and stood there for half an hour and no one came out. I heard laughter from the back and went to see why no one came out to help me. There I see Moike on the dyno with 3 naked midgets"

No real reason for posting. I saw this and thought it was the coolest thing evar! And yea that would be a horrible sight. They sure would put down like 800 hp though .

Actually now that I think about it I will post something. My buddy just went to LIC and had a great experience with them. Out of all the shops, I have heard the least amount of crap about them. The bitterness of poor quality lasts much longer than the sweetness of a low price.

You seriously can't go wrong going to LIC having Adam and Kevin do the work man. I've been going there with 2 different cars for about 2yrs now and my current RS has a wrx swap that Adam did back in the day and it still runs perfectly! They have also replaced my shortblock a while back and it runs like a dream
Quality > everything else

Heres what you do:

1. Write down S&S, LIC, GST and GB each on a piece of paper.
2. Put pieces of paper in hat.
3. Draw one piece of paper.
4. ???
5. Profit.

My vote is LIC, Adam and Kevin know their ****. You know the old adage: You get what you pay for.

I would think that for the job your looking to get done I would take it to LIC, I have no idea about whether or not Methodbuilt/FIA do or can do that work but I do know for sure that LIC can and will do it right.

When I doubt... call all these guys and see who can fit you in their schedule. That's how I do it anyways.

I would just goto the guys who were the first ones to do Conversions, which would be LIC. You can't go wrong with them.

the only thing that concerned me about LIC was when I asked why the new ECU was needed and they pretty much said "we don't really know"

If they don't know, I doubt that anyone else would know. Did you ever ask them if they have ever tried to do the conversion without changing the ECU?

no, cause I found an ecu anyways. The only thing I can think of is that since the AT has more wires (for the sensors) that the 5MT wiring harness doesn't fit and they'd have to hack the wires...I can't imagine that you wouldn't be able to tune in any other differences.

Looks like I'll be going with LIC....they are the specialists at this (and FIA doesnt return PM's )
