CA Law makers trying to overturn results of Prop 8!
I Agree that lawmakers cannot overturn the will of the people, but the courts can overturn the will of the people, that's why they are there, to interpret law. If this wasn't the case many of us who are not white would only have 3/5's a vote and have to drink from different water fountains and have to attend different schools, and also eat in different parts of a restaurant. So I think the protests should stop, the lawmakers should stop, and the CA supreme court should look at this amendment, and I'm sure they will find it unequal, which it is, and that's about that.
I don't like that they are going against peoples votes, but I understand what they are trying to say. If the 'no' on 8 crowd had actually tried and gone out there all over the state and fought for their rights, the voting would've been different. I saw tons of 'yes' on 8 folks everywhere, but never any 'no' on 8 people out there.

I don't think a lot of people have thought about how we decide to give rights and how we decide whom to give them to.
Should every body be able to do what they want with the law supporting it?
Of course not, there are a lot of things that people want to do that the majority of us see as wrong.
So, what is the difference in the majority being able to vote one thing as wrong and the population supporting it
AND
The majority being able to vote one thing as wrong and the population not supporting it?
Nearly every law is the US is a majority vs minority. Someone always loses and has their "right" to something taken away or limited.
So if the results are always against one group of people (yes or no) then we will always have someone being denied their rights.
How do we decide who has which rights? We choose based on our beliefs, life experiences, and what we feel is right, do we not?
I understand homosexual couples want to have the same rights, and I want them to. But I believe marriage is between a man and woman. If all they want are the rights, then I am more than confident that a prop would pass with those rights. But they want to have the word. And the people have decided that they believe the word marriage should stand for between a man and woman.
You don't see mass of prop 4 supporters storming Planned Parenthood trying to stop kids that can't even tan, buy whiteout, or vote being harassed because they want to have an abortion without anyone knowing.
We, the people, decide which rights we do and do not have. The courts are here to ensure that we don't deny people rights that they should have. Let the courts do their job, we've all voted and done ours.

But that's just what I think and what I've experienced talking with the handful of gays I know.
That would make sense. They're the hardcore, in it for the rights product of the 60's gays. Not the liberl, everybody is everybody and nobody is nobody gays.
My prediction is that EJ is about to get blasted by this new generation. They'll probably call him conservative lol
