Any Producers/Beat Makers/Remixers out there?
I know International B is pro and all. But anyone else out there?
I have a compact computer-based set-up. I use:
G4 Laptop
M-Box with ProTools LE 6.4
Reason 2.5
Oxygen 8 USB/MIDI Keyboard
Rane TTM-56
Technics SL-1200 MK2 (2 of them)
Just curious to see what you are running.

Dual G4 1.25ghz (mirrored drive doors)
USB M-Audio Oxygen 8
Reason 2.5 (composition..sorta)
Cubase (ReWired with Reason)
Peak 4.1 (for making and editing loops)
ReCycle 2.1 (for cutting up loops)
I'm poor, so that's what I'm working with for now. I'd like some turntables and the M-Box along with a Shure mic. For now, I just sample off MP3's or CD's.

Cool Holland. I had a feeling you'd respond. I love my laptop. I work on stuff on my BART ride from DC to Oakland. Right now I'm working on a track for my friend Kiwi. I did stuff for his solo album. Now I am working on Native Guns stuff for him. http://www.nativeguns.com
Vinyl turntables are getting cheaper on CL since everyone is going to CD turntables.
I'd like to get a Shure SM58 one day. But I don't do vocals myself so it's not a priority.

Hey OwlBoogie,
I'm a songwriter and smalltime "producer"....
But it's old-school music, not hip-hop. Guitars, pianos, stuff like that.
The "Grapestake Studio" equipment list... (abridged version.)
Desktop PC with Dual CPUs and SCSI drives (getting a bit old... replacing it soon)
MOTU 1296 audio interface.
Universal Audio UAD-1 card.
Preamps from Grace and FMR, as well as some Mackies for backup.
A dozen-odd mics (including AKG C-60, SP-C3, Sure 57s and 58s, some RODE, various others.)
Akai MPD-16 (like the MPC, but just pads, no sequencer)
Mackie 1402 mixer for monior use ONLY
Old Korg digital mixer used as a controll surface.
A bunch of software, including Cubase SX, LM-4, and various others.
Plus a whole bunch of instruments, amps, cables, patchbays, headphones, ect.
If I've got better mics and pres than some of y'all (not that mine are THAT great, but...) I'd be willing to do some tracking for fellow i-clubbers. Vocals, quitars, whatever.
Maybe even a collaboration.
(Although I may be the only one that dosn't focus on Hip Hop... still I might even be willing to try...)
Mike

Nice to see the music makers come out of hiding.
I had a tascam porta 03 that I used to make mixes on. I've retired it. I'm just happy that music software/hardware is more affrodable now. When I was young and had no money I had ideas of what would be cool to hear. But no means to make it. Now with even a little money you can get started. I like that Coke commercial where that kid saves his allowance to buy a drum machine at a pawn shop. Hits close to home.

Me and my friends make some electronica/whatever at home using junky keyboards and hexidecimal trackers. Sorta like plaid, or so people have noted. I have tons of analog keyboards, from moogs to sequential circuits, and an array of guitars and basses and drumsets. Before that i used to play drums in a band called ent, then in one called crime in choir.

Actually I've only tooled around with beet making on it, another drum machine and on protools and what not.
But my cousin makes beats. He and his brothers had this crew called biomorphix. Well they still do but they don't perform anymore. Couple of the guys are still doing stuff. My cousin daniel has mad track laid down and came in 3rd at a huge battle in SoCal. MC Lyte hosted it. Last I heard his record is inthe hands of Talib Kweli and with a couple guys with Wu Tang. He's no joke. Think he's about 16 now. Haven't seen him for a couple years now. Been recording since he was 10. No joke. I've got a CD. I can bring it down to UCKK sometime. Old but not to bad.
My cousin Maurice still makes beats and is into the production stuff but he went to school and he's working now. Hoping to set up his own studio and what not. He'll get it done. Just that kind of cat. Used to sing in the Aquabats.
So yeah...I'm not a producer or beat maker but Maurice is and he's pretty good.
Old friend of mine...Mark Rosenberg. Spelling is off I"m sure. Made a couple beats for Mos Def. Used to or might still teach at that recording school in Emeryville. Guy is sick.
so yeah...I'm hoping to tryin and find another 1200 so if you see one for reasonble cost let me know. I'd like to give it to Maurice as a gift. He had to sell his to pay for school and family stuff.

I have way too much stuff to list but my basic set up is pretty much the same as Owl Boogie's except with Live in addition to Protools, a bunch of VSTis, a Motu 828, etc. You might have heard a few of my friend's tracks though. I'll give you a hint: His initials are BT and he works with another guy named BT
I DJed pretty seriously in college and I got to open for the Beatnuts, The Roots, J5, and Blackalicious among others.

Hey Marc, let me know if some of your buddies need beats. I need to stay occupied and it would be great to get a little more exposure and connections with other emcees. I haven't even touched Reason for several months now, but I've got ideas playing in my head all the time. I'm afraid I'm getting rustier after i've made huge improvements in the beginning of my summer break last year.
