its fun, lots of fun

but button willow is flat and boring

there' like one elevation change and its like 9 feet or some crap. and last time i was there, a lot of the run off was a foot or 2 lower than the track. so you literally drop off the track.

have fun, its a blast

What kind of mods do you have on the car? My friend benny (chishifu) did his first event, and what was REALLY important was getting some high temperature brake fluids like ATE or Motul's. He used oem ones, and they boiled on him so in the later sessions he's brakes would feel squeeshy and...really just failed on him. So watch out for that.

^ I second that statement! lol, yeah... my brakes died on me and i almost hit a wall. Some good pads and rotors wouldn't hurt either.

Or just dont over drive the car and over brake

There IS such thing as over braking

^ well, what do you mean by that exactly... i dragged the brakes a little longer in the beginning but my instructor quickly told me just to brake hard and short to keep the wear to a minimum. So is over braking just not braking hard enough and staying on the brakes too long? I think it's a natural thing for beginners, to feel safe.

Better safe than sorry? It's just brake fluids, really cheap..

I bought DOT 3/4 synthetic stuff for like $7. I think the ATE or Motul is like $20ish.

STI Brembos≠standard WRX brakes.

Pad and fluid changes can wait, especially if this is her first track event. I did several events (Sears, BW) before I switched to high temperature fluid, stainless lines, and Porterfield pads on my STi. You can find time in braking hard, but you can find *more* time by not over-slowing the car and carrying more speed through turns.

As its her first time out, I don't think finding time is of much concern.
The most important point is not to over drive herself.
Explore the envelope from the inside out, and bring the car home without any damage.
and don't forget to have fun!

The need for better brakes will come soon hereafter...

the car is all stock (ahhh this is so nice )

i was thinking about changing the pads anyways because i REALLY hate the stock pads dust. Ive upgraded all my other cars to the blue brake fluid and will eventually do this with the STi....ive been reading a lot about people needing to do this sooner than on most cars... but is that just the WRX and not the STi?

im really comfortable with the STis breaking system....light pedal slow down and heavy pedal stop...makes so much sense to me but again...this is the first time im using this car for an event and its a complete 180 from my prelude.

i cant wait. i decided to take the STi instead of the prelude which i know inside and out and the suspension is setup and dialed in. But....considering im driving there and back in the same day i decided to take STi instead...and then i started getting nervous because i just use it for DD and havent had a chance to beat on it.

Reid: you want to bring the integra?????

this is the track map.....it actually looks really easy.

heh heh heh ^

looks easy, they all LOOK easy

dont' worry about it you're going to have a fantastic time no matter what. unless of course your wreck your car. hehehe

one piece of advice, if you run off the track. just let your car run off the track, do not try to get back on. you'll sling shot once your tires hit pavement again.

brake pads and fluid are not a bad idea... i did those before my first track day.

take it easy the first few runs and don't over drive yourself.
