the GI issue ones arent the nice fitted style, they come in standard sizes, s, m, l, etc, and are not class 2a, not even class 2 IIRC, someone here will know, Salty??

`The GI issue vest is not as bad as you think it is, we had a soldier shot point blank (5.56) at a range in Kuwait pre Iraqi Freedom with no plates and he walked away with a minor rib damage. Put the plates in and you are really saving lives, it works

The flak vests, ie no armour, do work, but not usually for a straight shot - especially copper or steel jackets, they prevent collateral damage.
We had a guy that was shot in Turkey while wearing a flak vest - two hits and he had broken skin and a bruise, but that's all it was. Drive by at the airport - was told after the fact that he was the first guy the drive by guys had ever hit at the airport.
