Toyota Japan has already said they're working on a face lift for the 86.

The new forester has the FB20 engine, the turbo version of the FA20.. Swap one of those

That's probably what I'd do, this build I have helping with every weekend is a little on the nutball side of things, hell the wiring loom and ecu is more than a BRZ costs new!

With the way the engine bay is designed for balance, the engine sits too far back for the current series of turbo engines to fit.
