i was thinking of selling it, but then i would think i loose a lot of money off of what i can sell it for and how much time/money i spent into it. i still love the wrx and am planning to invest another 5k into it when i return as a fun weekend car. about the savings, know anywhere that gives you more than 1% interest?
Even at ZERO interest, you'd be a lot better off selling the car.

It's a depreciating item. In 3 years, it's gonna be worth an easy $5K LESS than it is now. If I remember right you have an 05 WRX? Well, look at what an 02 WRX is worth now to get an idea of what's in store.

That's OK if you're driving it......but gonna suck if you're NOT driving it!

Not to mention, from experience....stored cars like that (even if your parents say they'll drive it once/week) are never the same once they come back out of storage. Figure on lotsa little stuff needing repair/updating/fixing after that time.

Sell it, throw the cash in the bank or other investment, and you'll be looking at an STI upgrade (or more) when you get back

i have an 04 w/ about 23k mi. selling for $15k-$16k just doesnt sound too appealing to me when its still such a fun car to drive for touge. i would definately be looking into buying a brand new sti if it still looked the same as the 04-05 models. too bad they changed the front-end.. ;( hm..

Guess I should clarify :

Sell your 04 WRX for $15-16K now.

In 3 years, that SAME CASH will buy an 04 STI!

So let your "cash" sit in the bank and upgrade you to an STI when you get back, or sit in your parent's driveway and, ummm, "not upgrade" for you

If you're looking for super-conservative investments here (i.e. savings account), then at least goto ING Direct where you'll get 3% interest. Still not great, but lots better than 1%....or the "negative" interest you'd have from a WRX sitting in a driveway a continent away
