you sir are correct... the hybrid is 50/50 50% recirculates and 50% dumps...
BUY MINE! it's a GFB STEALTH FX which is fully adjustable from 100% recirculating (like stock) to 100% atmospheric and u can adjust the spring load as well. had it on for maybe 5-10k back in 04 then swapped it out for an hks ssqv cuzz i liked the distinct whistle. been in box since w/ beauty bolts! you can even order another horn/trumpet to make it whistle like an hks online.

Don't flame the rest of us for giving our opinions...The OP asked for our opinions, and we're giving it to him. No one is trying to talk him out of getting one. We're giving him our opinions and asking questions. He has yet to provide us with more information anyways.

If the OP wants to get an aftermarket BOV purely just for the sound, then go for it. No one is stopping him.
I know what a BOV does, never said I didn't. Like I said, the stock BPV is sufficient
However, there is a problem with your statement above. You said the function of a BOV is to release extra air from the pipes, which in a way, it does just that. Then you go on to say that a BOV is just for sound and NOT performance. If it has no performance value, why would Subaru include one to "release extra air" if your engine would not require it?
Again, if you honestly think it has no function and it's just for sound, I challenge you to remove it from your engine and continue to drive normally.
Many of us have aftermarket BOV for sound and/or for performance reasons.

Lol....
----------------------------------------------------------
So here is my thoughts on BOV's <--> BPV's
BOV Blow off valve, Vent to air (quiet to loud)
BPV By-pass valve, Vent to engine (quiet)
Both BOV and BPV job is to stop the air from crashing back into the turbo when you close the throttle plate. Without it, it can damage the blades and bearing in the turbo with surging.
If you want sound, BOV can work for you. I would recomned the APS 50/50. Its adjustable and it can vent air 50% or to motor 100%.
So if you are looking for sound. That would be the best path.
Stock BPV's are just like the stock STi tmic. They work really well. I know people pushing 400whp on them and still holding just fine. They do not have to worry about getting pulled over and hood popped as well. Its all stock.
When you get above 450whp your tuner I am sure will be talking with you to find what works best for your set up and tune. I tried my APS 50/50 on my build. It was a no go. I ended up with a Tial 55mm. Its really really loud.
The draw backs are Loud and well you gottta find what spring works with your set up. We went thru a few springs and still are chasing springs for the BOV and both wastegates.
Times have changed and YES you can, Yes a good tuner can make them work on a OEM set up.
Yes you can move the MAF and make a BOV work as well. My current set up I am running the car on the stock ECU with a Cobb ap. I have no problems and make good power. I was going Motec but was told to hold off. So I am.
My question is why spend that money unless you need to. There is plenty of other things to do that have better gains. If you want it, Go for it..... But also keep in mind that you will need a tune. And that sound gets old and wears on you over time. If you drive everyday or long trips. Your not going to like it after the 1st 200 miles.
The best thing to do is to be honest about what your goals are. Some of us would be happy to help guide you. Let other peoples lessons save you money.

Honestly, The road, engine, exhaust noise and vibration suck after a while. Heavy spring rates... Roll cage. 6 point harness...
Then add the worry about someone stealing the car, or the wing.
Yes...
I dont want to come off as being an A33hole. Maybe I am just getting older. It has it good moments. But its not always fun times..... After long trips over 100 miles I find the next day is a painful time.
But would I do it all over again? Hell yes. Its more then just about the car. Its also about the journey and the people. Like our photo thread. If we didnt have subarus. Well we wouldnt be helping each other on our photo stuff. And that is the best part of the journey....

I love the quarterly or Bi-annually BOV thread. I havent been on long 3+ years now but it is a trend.
They always Always Always wind up the same way.......Just like this one.
Like what Old Guy said, and maybe im a little too old too. My after market K&N intake was too loud for me so I swapped it out for the stocker as I didnt need an intake.
My whole approach now is sleeper. Borla hush exhaust, Larger top mount.
Basically if I dont need it to make power I dont have it on my car.
Alas to each his own.
