BMW Ultimate Drive for Breast Cancer

Was awesome. Spent all day driving nice BMW's and helping to raise money for Breast Cancer. BMW puts up one dollar for every mile you test drive one of there vehicles. They had a nice choice of vehicles to drive with special viynl graphics on them. Drove a 330ci, new 530i, Z4 3.0, 325xi estate, X3 3.0, X5 4.4i, and a 745li. They had a 21 mile test course to cruise around that went from Concord to Martinez, down a "canyon" road, and back to Concord. They'll be at BMW of Concord untill 5:30 today, and then they go to another dealership. If anyone gets a chance to go I highly recommend it. How many chances do you get to drive an $80k 745li unsupervised? Also free food, and a free shirt. Free to participate. You do need to be 21 though.

I did this a week ago at the Fremont BMW. Fun stuff. It was hilarious when my friend decided to drive the wagon (cuz no one else did and he felt bad) and took the outside carpool lane to outrun a couple dudes in Z4's on the on ramp getting into 880. They looked at us like, "WTF!?"

I drove the 6-speed 5-series too. The clutch was slippery cuz one of the guys who worked there told me someone burnt out the clutch in one of the previous events.

Just only the 5-series I drove was the only manual. The other one has some kind of clutchless manual where you change gears on some thing on the steering wheel. That was too weird for me, so I didn't try it out. My friend did though.

Did my test driving with my friend down in Fresno. One of the girls there burned out the clutch of one of the X3's. It was the big thing when we got there. All the employees were talking about it. When we were doing our test drive in the 745, we saw the tow truck attending to it. Anyway...

We got to test drive first the 745li...Big and comfortable. But I was suprised at the distance between the floor and the gas pedal - it was real short. We took that car up to 140mph and then the computer stopped us. Also didn't like that sport shifting option they had. They had buttons, but you could only shift down. Weird.

Then we took the 530i with SMG out (That was what Takumi was talking about). A lot of people getting out of the car didn't like the SMG.. my friend and I thought it was pretty cool, although, I would have liked to have driven an M3 with the Williams F1 SMG in it because the 530 has the crappy version.

And sadly, they didn't EVEN let us touch the new 6 series.
