Bluray players

Does anyone know of a bluray player that supports avi and/or mkv files?

I considered a PS3 but to my knowledge it doesn't support anything but mpeg4. I could be wrong though.

PS3 FTW. I bought my dad one when he was looking for Bluray players. Easy decision.

i dont think any of them do mkv BUT... if you get a ps3 you can update it as the standards change and the features improve for free.. ps3 for the win. By the way. PS3 now has netflix player.

It is awesome i watching season 4-6 of Penn and Teller Bull**** was nice when nothing was on. It loads fast and does not lag and the quality is really good.

Ps3 as a bluray player. I mean thats the only thing mine is good for with it's lack of games and not as good online gaming experience compared to my 360.

Ps3 was the bluray player to get when prices were still high.

Now seeing that we've had some $77 bluray players during BF, no need to get a PS3.

Unfortunately none support MKV at the moment.

Best bet is to build an HTPC, or the WD media player and just hook up your hdd to it via usb.

And I know someone will say to use PMS playstation media server. yea its great, but it still transcodes on the fly. I too prefer to just have a device tha will play the MKV straight up.

Except that you need to put the Netflix disc in anytime you want to see a streaming movie (unlike Xbox). Other than that, it's great.

its also a temp solution. There will be a fw update in the future with the full integration. I really dont mind putting in a disc for valueadds..Only downside i can see is unnecessary stress on the drive.

+1 for ps3, you can use mk2vob to convert mkv to m2ts on your pc, then stream it through your ps3 to play on your big tv.
